Alexandria State Recreation Area is a 55-acre state park located near Alexandria and Powell in Nebraska. At this park, you'll have access to 46 acres of water, split between two lakes, plus a landscape of mature trees and grassy fields. Just 20 miles to the south sits the border to Kansas, and 22 miles to the southeast sits the Rock Creek Station State Historical Park.

RV Resorts & Campsites in Alexandria State Recreation Area

The campground at Alexandria State Recreation Area has 53 campsites, most of which can accommodate medium to large RVs. The campsites are offered in three categories, called Electric Plus, Electric, or Basic. The Electric Plus sites offer 50-amp hookups while the Electric sites offer 30-amp hookups, and the Basic sites do not have any hookups. Throughout the campground, visitors can find potable water and modern restrooms, plus there is a dump and fill station for RVs and a playground. All sites feature picnic tables and fire rings with grills.

What to Do at
Alexandria State Recreation Area

Aside from plenty of lakeside activities, visitors to this state recreation area can explore two playgrounds, find campsites on three road loops, or feed the geese that regularly pay the area a visit. The Alexandria Wilderness Management Area also borders this recreation area and is a great hunting ground for deer and birds.

Fishing Fishing

One of the most popular activities at Alexandria State Recreation Area is fishing, and anglers can find bass, bluegill, common carp, channel catfish, crappie, and redear sunfish in the area's two large lakes. Some local surveys have shown that the bass in the waters are some of the largest in the region, reaching up to 15 inches in length. Lots of fishing spots are marked around the lake with parking areas for you to use if you carry a valid Nebraska fishing license.

Flora and Fauna

Some native animals wander through this area frequently, including whitetail deer, mule deer, river otters, beavers, and cottontail rabbits. Visitors often report seeing bald eagles, geese, and sandhill cranes, too. As for the local flora, you may be able to identify trees such as elm, maple, pine, ash, cottonwood, and birch.

Boating

Non-motorized boating is permitted at this state recreation area, and this includes kayaking, canoeing, and paddle boating. While no boat ramps are found along the lakes, visitors can put-in and take-out easily from the common fishing areas.

Bikers can enjoy riding along the public roads found at this recreation area, including along the campground loops. Many campers like to bring a bicycle to enjoy the scenery of the lakes by using these paved roads.

How to Get to
Alexandria State Recreation Area

Alexandria State Recreation Area is located between State Highways 4, 15, 53, and U.S. Highway 136, plus it is about an hour and 20-minute drive from Lincoln, Nebraska. To reach the recreation area from Lincoln, take Interstate 80 West for 16 miles, then take Exit 379 toward Fairbury. Turn left onto State Highway 15 South, then continue 3.7 miles before turning right onto U.S. Highway 6 West. Drive 11.7 miles, then turn left onto State Highway 15 South again and continue 23 miles. Turn right onto Nebraska 4 West, continue six miles, and turn left onto 562nd Avenue. Continue six more miles before turning right onto 718th Road. After two miles, turn left, then turn immediately right to enter the state recreation area.
