This recreational area covers over 2,842 acres of land in Vermilion County, Illinois, near the cities of Danville, Oakwood, and Tilton. Kickapoo features nearly 35 miles of hiking trails and 228 acres of lakes. This location offers plenty of recreational activities, including mountain biking, canoeing, fishing, and camping. Kickapoo State Park was the first park in the country to be located on a strip-mining site. Whether you like to boat on the lake or explore the numerous trails, Kickapoo is a great place for an RV trip.

If you are looking for a resort-style campground, you will want to stay at D&W Lake Camping and RV Park in Champaign. You can enjoy swimming pools, tennis courts, and golf courses within a short distance from this location. When you book at this campground, your site will have a full hookup. If you need anything for your trip, there is a convenience store located near the property. The basic sites are $27.50 per day. Prairie Pines RV Campground is a short drive from Kickapoo State Park. This campground features 95 lots that have sewage, electric, and water hookups. There is a two-week limit at the sites. If you want to book a space for your RV, the campground fees are about $26.50 per day.

Kickapoo State Park
Inside Kickapoo State Park
Whether you love wildlife or want to hike the trails, you can find plenty of things to do at Kickapoo. The mined land is now home to a forest of cottonwood, ash, and wild cherry trees. Kickapoo's waters make a perfect setting for boating or fishing. This site is also one of the few state parks in Illinois that allows scuba diving. The Middle Fork portion of the Vermilion River runs through the park, and it is a great place to break out the kayak or canoe.

Kickapoo State Park is about a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Chicago. From Interstate 74W, you need to take Exit 210. Continue to drive for 1 mile to the stoplight. You will turn left at the light and travel 2 miles north. At the Kickapoo Park sign, you want to make a left.
Entering Kickapoo State Park
The park is open throughout the year. However, visitors to the campgrounds must leave by 10:00 p.m. There is no entrance fee for the park, but you will have to pay if you plan to spend the night at the campground.
