This state park in Oakwood sits on land that was once a strip mine, and it’s now a thriving forest with 22 lakes for deep-water fishing. The Vermilion River’s Middle Fork also flows through the park. Needless to say, camping guests do a lot of kayaking, canoeing, swimming, and exploring.
If you like being surrounded by wildflowers, then you’ll be overjoyed by Kickapoo State Recreation Area. The colors are bright and varied; you’ll see violets, wake-robins, bluebells, jack-in-the-pulpits, and more. Since wildlife is also rampant at this state park, many campers see white-tailed deer up close.
“This is a very relaxing, heavily forested campground with most sites fairly spacious (and pretty level). Camp host was very accommodating, letting us go in, pick our site, and pay later since it wasn’t busy.” – Carol, RV Park Review
