Timpanogos Cave National Monument

Hidden high in the cliffs of Utah's American Fork Canyon, a long system of caves stretches deep into the rocky walls. This is Timpanogos Cave National Monument, which sits in the Wasatch Range just south of Salt Lake City. Getting to the cave entrance is an adventure in itself — the only way in is a steep, 1.5-mile trail that takes you up the canyon walls on a series of exposed switchbacks. Ranger-led cave tours, which run from late spring to early fall, take you through the rocky walls and into a geological wonderland.
