Tyler State Park has many outdoor activities for visitors! You can fish, swim in the lake, bike, bird watch, and much more. The nearby town of Tyler - “America’s Rose Capital” - is also home to the Texas State Railroad, ziplining, museums, plantations, and other areas where you can learn more about the local history.

Inside Tyler State Park
There are a number of things to do at Tyler State Park, both on the water and on the shores of the lake!
Geocaching: Looking for a geocache is like a modern-day treasure hunt! Head to geocaching.com, or use an app to find caches near where you are in the park, and use GPS coordinates to find the cache.
Hiking: Explore more than 13 miles of trails throughout the Pineywoods, and be sure to hike the Whispering Pines Nature Trail, which was laid out more than 70 years ago by the Civilian Conservation Corps.
Biking: You can also check out the 13 miles of trails on a mountain bike. Try the 3.1-mile B Loop Trail to see the park’s many different kinds of forest.
Fishing: Fish for crappie, perch, catfish, and bass at one of the park’s three fishing piers or from a boat. The park loans fishing rods, reels, and tackle boxes, and you do not need a fishing license to fish at any Texas state park.\
Boating: You can also fish from a boat. Rent one at the park, or bring your own. Motors are allowed, but there is a 5 mph speed limit.
Swimming: You can swim in the lake as well.

Tyler State Park is two miles north of Interstate 20 on FM 14, north of Tyler on Park Road 16.

Entering Tyler State Park
There is an entrance fee of $6 per person for those 13 years and up to visit the park. There is no fee for children 12 and under.

Anytime from March to October is a good time to visit this park. The park offers year-round attractions and activities, but the weather is ideal from spring to fall with the spring being the best time for temperatures.
The climate of Tyler State Park is humid subtropical, which means it can get hot and humid summers and dry and cool winters. The average temperature in the park is 68 degrees Fahrenheit. The average rainfall is 45 inches per year.
There are at least four designated RV camping spots in Tyler State Park: Big Pine, Lakeview, and two general area campgrounds. Each offers RV hookups, fire rings with grills, restrooms and showers, and picnic tables.
Reservations for a camping spot at Tyler State Park require a two-night minimum stay and start at $18 per night, plus a daily entrance fee of $6 per day. The minimum stay must include Friday and Saturday.
Tyler State Park allows pets in without a fee. Pets should be always on a leash of no more than 6 feet. There are no open dog park areas in the park. Pet owners must also clean up after their pets.
