Apostle Islands National Lakeshore

Head to the remote northern reaches of Wisconsin to find the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. Covering 12 miles of the Lake Superior coast and an archipelago of 21 islands, this is a haven for kayakers and sailors. On a calm day, you can paddle through rock arches, slip into silent caves, and land on beaches that can only be reached by boat. Elsewhere in the islands, fish for trout and salmon, scuba dive an ancient shipwreck or hike 50 miles of trails. With its rich tradition of Native American and maritime history—and more lighthouses than any other national park site—this protected lakeshore area has something for all types of travelers. Wherever you go, you're never far from the dense Wisconsin forests and the cold waters of the largest, deepest Great Lake.
