Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve and Chalmette National Cemetery

From pirate Jean Lafitte and the Baratarians to 19th-century civil rights activist Homer Plessy, the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve memorializes the extraordinary people who shaped the history of Louisiana. The six sites that make up the park include the Chalmette Cemetery, the final resting place of thousands of soldiers who died in conflicts that range from the Civil War to the Vietnam War. With a visitor center in the French Quarter, the Barataria Preserve gives visitors the chance to explore the wetlands, the Acadian Cultural Center, and more. At these sites, visitors encounter nature, history, and culture over three centuries of America's past.
