Pilot Knob State Park is one of the most historic of the Mason City campgrounds. Only 30 minutes away from Mason City, the park is the site of the only Civil War battle in the state of Iowa. The observation tower at the top of the hill was built during the Great Depression and commands an inspiring 360-degree view.
At Pilot Knob State Park, extensive hiking trails run through forests and grasslands for up to eight miles. Bird-watching is one of the most enjoyable things to do at this 700-acre park. Events are held at the outdoor amphitheater that seats up to 1,000 people.
“This state park has beautiful hiking trails and paths that lead to fascinating destinations like an outdoor amphitheater.” -Joy, TripAdvisor Review
