Located on 255 acres deep in the emerald groves of the Appomattox-Buckingham State Forest, Holliday Lake is well known for its fishing spots and dense woods. Within its 150-acre lake are yellow perch, largemouth bass, and bluegill. Holliday Lake is located between the Hixburg and Andersonville communities in Virginia, so it is far enough away to connect with nature.

Paradise Lake Family Campground
Those explorers looking for a campground with a family-oriented atmosphere should visit Paradise Lake Family Campground. Paradise Lake comes complete with lakes for fishing and swimming, a pool, two bathhouses, and laundry facilities. Animal lovers are also allowed to bring pets along. Kayaks and paddle-boats are available for rent, and RV amenities include water, electricity, and full 30- or 50-amp hookups. Rates range from $45 to $51 per night.
Charlottesville KOA
Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Charlottesville KOA is an excellent place to go and unwind after a day of exploring. Hiking, cave exploration, and visiting waterfalls are all activities within a short distance from the campground. Amenities include 50-amp hookups, Wi-Fi, cable TV, water, and laundry facilities. Pets are welcome, and rates run from $50 to $60 a night.
Cozy Acres Campground
Cozy Acres Campground is a family-run spot that has been thriving since the early 1970s. Be sure to look at the Trading Post on-site to restock on RV supplies. The campground has a swimming pool, playground, and bathhouse. Other amenities are water, sewer, and 30- or 50-amp connections. Rates range from $49 to $88 per night.

There's plenty to do inside Holliday Lake State Park, from fishing to hiking. You can try your hand at catching a rainbow trout or go for a nearly seven-mile hike around the lake. Those looking to get out on the water can rent kayaks, paddleboards, and canoes. You can also relax on one of the many shaded picnic sites.
How to Get to
Holliday Lake State Park
Holliday Lake State Park is located in Central Virginia. Head northeast on I-81 N. Take Exit 188A to merge onto US-60 E toward Buena Vista. You should pass a Subway restaurant on the left after about 3.7 miles. At the traffic circle, keep going straight to stay on US-60 E for about 19 miles. Turn right onto State Rte 654, then follow it for about eight miles. Turn left onto VA-24 E, follow for two miles, and turn right onto State Rte 626. Turn left onto State Rte 640, and then turn right onto State Rte 692. The state park entrance will be on the right.

Summer is the best time to visit Holliday Lake State Park. Visitors will enjoy warm days and many activities, including fishing, swimming, boating, and hiking. You can camp from the first Friday in March through the first Monday in December.
Ducks, osprey, green heron, and eagles are commonly found near the lake. While on the trail, hikers are likely to see songbirds, deer, squirrels, rabbits, and raccoons. The park is also a stopover for migratory birds.
Holliday Lake State Park has six RV-specific sites with hookups. There are 29 sites for trailers, tents, and pop-ups. Campsite amenities include lantern holders, fire rings, and picnic tables. The park also has restrooms and a playground.
Reservations are required for camping spots. They can be made over the phone or online up to 11 months in advance and the same day until 2 p.m. There is a $5 reservation fee.
Pets are allowed in Holliday Lake State Park but must be supervised at all times. They must be in an enclosed area or on a leash no longer than 6 feet.
