Bear Lake State Park RV & Campground Guide

Utah

Bear Lake State Park features a gorgeous blue lake in a high-altitude setting and is in northern Utah, near the Idaho border. Bear Lake was initially formed due to seismic activity roughly 30,000 years ago. Scottish-Canadian explorer and fur trader Donald McKenzie came through the region in 1819 and named the body of water Black Bear Lake, later shortened to Bear Lake. Bear Lake became a state park in 1962 and offers swimming, boating, fishing, waterskiing, and many other activities. The lake's brilliant color comes from the calcium carbonate minerals that reflect sunlight up to the surface. Summer offers the warmest temperatures and is the best time to visit, though it's also the busiest season in the park. Nearby Cities: • Logan, UT • Ogden, UT • Evanston, WY • Soda Springs, ID
