- Lake Colorado City State Park
Located approximately 11 miles southwest of Colorado City and 77 miles south of Abilene and Midland, Texas, Lake Colorado City State Park is the definition of “getting away from it all.” The quiet park offers gently rolling hills and a landscape of cacti and trees like juniper and mesquite. Its real attraction is the Lake Colorado City reservoir, an impoundment of Morgan Creek filled with recreational fish. It may be quiet here, but there is plenty to do, including everything from swimming, boating, and fishing on Lake Colorado to hiking trails like the Cactus Cut Trail and the Roadrunner Loop Trail. The weather in Colorado City offers cool relief from the Texas desert, but it still gets quite warm during the summer months.
