Galveston Island State Park is located off the Gulf Coast of Texas, about 12 miles south of Galveston and 60 miles south of Houston. The state park is known for its vast and varied landscape, which covers over 2,000 acres of the island. With its boardwalks, bayside trails and beaches, Galveston Island State Park attracts many visitors. There's plenty to do both on land and on the gulf. The region is known for its warm year-round temperatures and fairly high humidity.

Galveston Island State Park Campgrounds
Galveston Island State Park has its own set of campgrounds for RVers. Spaces start at $15 for those without electrical hookups and $20 for those with hookups, allowing for a slightly cheaper option if you don't mind roughing it a bit. Water is included at all sites, and most come with a picnic table and fire ring. You'll also have access to nearby showers and restrooms. Prices can vary quite a bit based on the spot, the number of nights stayed and general availability. Galveston Island State Park is an ideal destination if you enjoy spending time on the water. Given that it's an island, you'll be able to experience tons of exciting activities on the sand, too. How to Get to
Galveston Island State Park
You'll take Interstate 45, also known as Gulf Freeway, to get to Galveston Island from Houston. Once in the city of Galveston, navigate to TX 87 S and travel for around 2.5 miles before turning right onto Exit 1A. Continue straight until you see TX 342 SPUR come up on the left. Turn off there, and then turn right onto FM 3005 in around 1.5 miles. From there, you'll just want to follow the road for another 9 miles or so until you see the park come into view.
Getting into Galveston Island State Park is a simple matter. Coming in from FM 3005, you should see an intersection with a stone wall signifying the park on the left side of the road. Turn off that way and travel a short ways to the gate where you can pay for entrance into the park.
