Need a break from the hustle and bustle of city life? Henry Horton State Park offers a stunning retreat just an hour south of Nashville, and convenient to a wide range of other urban areas in central Tennessee. Constructed in the 1960s on the estate of the former governor of Tennessee, Henry Horton, the park offers a stunning riverside vista that’s populated by one of the most diverse sets of plants and animals in the country.
There’s plenty of man-made splendor to enjoy, there, too; the park is home to the remnants of a mill and bridge, which were used by the extended Horton family over the course of more than a century. It also boasts an inn, rentable cabins, a swimming pool, a golf course, and a campground including more than 50 RV-friendly campsites.
No matter what’s calling you into the Tennessee countryside, this guide will help you get there with as little hassle as possible -- so all you have to do is sit back and enjoy your well-deserved vacation.
