You might be forgiven if the first thing you think of when you think “South Carolina” is less mountain and more swamp. But make no mistake about it, the western corner of this state is still inhabited by the tail end of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and Table Rock State Park is one of the best places to explore South Carolina’s higher altitudes. In fact, this 3,000 acre landscape is home to the tallest peak in the entire state - the aptly-named Pinnacle Mountain, whose 3,415-foot elevation is pretty darn impressive for a state with lots of land that’s literally below sea level.
But even if you’re not into peak-bagging, the park is filled to the brim with all sorts of outdoor recreational opportunities, from forested hiking trails suitable to all levels to picturesque waterscapes complete with waterfalls. It’s also home to a wide variety of developed amenities including modern campsites and renovated CCC-built cabins, as well as a lodge perfect for weddings, receptions, meetings, and other events.

Table Rock State Park itself is home to a beautiful and well-appointed campground, complete with water and electric RV hookup sites that can accommodate rigs up to 40 feet in length. That said, with fewer than 100 campsites on offer, the park’s pickings are bound to be slim unless you make your reservations early… which is why we’ve gathered the info you need on some of the other RV parks and campgrounds in the area.

A non-profit, volunteer-run RV campground located just minutes from the state park entrance, you know that the people behind Palmetto Cove RV Park have their hearts in the right place. What’s more, each site comes complete with modern amenities including water, sewer, and electric, and many of them are pull-thru sites perfect for bigger rigs.

Solitude Pointe
For many RV campers, solitude is the name of the game -- and if that’s how you feel about the experience, this aptly-named campground might be just perfect. Solitude Pointe offers about a dozen spacious, wooded RV sites, all of which offer full hookups with up to 50 amps of electric service. Premium sites with concrete pads are available, and discounts are available for veterans as well as AAA and Good Sam Club members.

When you’re talking about 3,000+ acres of clear sky and beautiful South Carolina forest, it’s not exactly a surprise that people flock to Table Rock State Park. But there are a few specific activities that attract visitors of various types and temperaments, a few of which are listed below.
Hiking - As home to the tallest mountain in the state of South Carolina, Table Rock State Park is an absolute must-visit for avid hikers keen on tackling every peak in their path. But its network of trails also offers treks past mountain streams and waterfalls, as well as access to the 80-mile Foothills Trail for backpackers.
Swimming and Paddling - Table Rock State Park boasts not one, but two sprawling lakes: the 36-acre Pinnacle Lake and the 67-acre Lake Oolenoy. These spots are perfect for serene waterside adventures -- and there’s even an old-fashioned swimming hole complete with a high dive.
Historical Significance - Table Rock State Park is one of only 16 South Carolina state parks built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, and many of their structures are still standing and renovated for modern use. The on-site lodge as well as 9 of the 14 cabins were built by the CCC and can be used for events and accommodations.
Mountain Music - The park is home to a beloved monthly bluegrass jam session known as Music on the Mountain, which takes place in the on-site lodge.
