Lake Greenwood State Park is best known for hosting the annual South Carolina Festival of Flowers Triathlon in June. The park spans 914 acres and borders the beautiful 11,400-acre Lake Greenwood. The origins of this park date back to 1938 when it became one of only 16 state parks developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in South Carolina.
The on-site John and Holly Self Drummond Conservation Education and Conference Center boasts interactive exhibits that explore the history and significance of both Lake Greenwood and other South Carolina state parks. Along with the many outdoor recreation options, you'll also want to make time to see the historic, unfinished wall near the entrance. This rock wall was stopped at the end of World War II when the members of the Civilian Conservation Corps left to defend the country.

Lake Greenwood State Park Campground
Lake Greenwood State Park Campground offers 125 RV campsites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. Campsites are paved and can accommodate rigs as long as 40 feet, and a dump station allows RV campers to extend their visit by cleaning their waste tanks as needed. The campground also provides warm showers and restrooms with flush toilets, while the camp store sells some camping supplies and perishable items. A playground and visitor center round out the amenities inside the park. Two boat ramps provide easy access to the lake, and there's a fishing pier for those without boats who want to try their luck.

Mansfield Park Campground
About 10 miles north of Lake Greenwood State Park, and on the other side of the lake, lies Mansfield Park Campground. The campground offers 140 spacious RV sites that come equipped with a fire ring and picnic table. Most of the campsites have pull-through capability and can handle rigs up to 40 feet in length. Restrooms with flush toilets are spaced throughout the park. A dump station is provided so that guests won't have to worry about maintaining a clean rig. A marina that handles as many as 41 boats of various lengths is available. Sunsets over the lake are fantastic and are easily viewed from every campsite. Fishing and hiking are just a couple of the activities that guests tend to enjoy the most.

All Seasons Family Campground
Located 15 miles north of Lake Greenwood State Park is All Seasons Family Campground, which is a family-owned and -operated facility. The campground includes 16 spacious RV campsites with pull-through potential, and each site is equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. All Seasons Family Campground is a full-service RV park with no extra amenities. This bare-bones approach to RV camping takes advantage of the myriad hiking/biking trails around Lake Greenwood, as well as the multiple boat launches visitors use to get on the lake. Many fishing tournament competitors or triathletes participating in the annual Festival of Flowers Triathlon choose to stay in this RV campground because of its large sites and quiet surroundings.

Inside Lake Greenwood State Park
Lake Greenwood State Park offers an exhilarating camping experience with a wide range of activities for guests to pursue. The park is home to the annual South Carolina Festival of Flowers Triathlon and several fishing tournaments. Fishing on the lake for bass, catfish, bream, and sunfish is an angler's dream. Boating, canoeing, and kayaking are among the favorite activities that draw visitors from other states. Recreational trails wind through the campground and along the peninsula's skirts, where attractive picnic areas take advantage of the scenic views.
Fishing
There's a small fishing pier open to campers and visitors by the first picnic shelter. Anglers with a valid South Carolina fishing license are welcome to catch crappie, bream, perch, bass and catfish. Since this park participates in the state's Tackle Loaner Program, you can grab a loaned rod or reel from the office.
Geocaching
Lake Greenwood State Park currently has at least one geocache that's part of the SC State Park Geocache Challenge. This traditional cache is stored in an ammo container not far from the parking lot near the Drummond Center. Finding all 47 geocaches that are part of this challenge series will lead you to the special finale at Sesquicentennial State Park.
Nature Watching
Visitors to the park may see beavers, long-tailed weasels, river otters, striped and spotted skunks, red foxes, minks and muskrats. Birding enthusiasts may have the chance to spot a belted kingfisher, field sparrow, painted bunting or wood thrush.
Flora and Fauna
When exploring the acres of lush South Carolina woodlands, you're sure to notice an abundance of Mayberry, Lizard's Tail, woolgrass, water oak and ferns. The most common tree species are American elms, winged elms, oak and shagbark hickory. Many nature lovers visit between March and April to get a look at the breathtaking wisteria blooms. Some of the larger animals in the region include black bears, coyotes, white-tailed deer and bobcats.
Hiking
The 0.8-mile Greenwood Lake Nature Trail is the only hiking path in the park. It's described as an easy journey that begins near the Drummond Center and winds through the vibrant hardwood forest. The blue markers will take you within sight of the shore and the campground as you admire the sparkling waters and active shorebirds.
Boating
Two large boat ramps provide campers with private access to the lake. All watercraft must follow South Carolina boating regulations. These rules include bringing enough personal flotation devices, utilizing your navigation lights and slowing your speed near the dock. Jet skiing is also permitted during the day.
Swimming
While you and your family are welcome to swim at Lake Greenwood, it's at your own risk. There's no designated swimming area within the park and no on-duty lifeguard. For your safety, you're not allowed to swim near the fishing pier, boat ramp or dock.

Entering Lake Greenwood State Park
To enter this park, all adults are charged $3 while the tickets for children between the ages of 6 and 15 are $1. South Carolina seniors receive a discounted rate of $1.50. The park is open from dawn to dusk daily. Standard vehicle parking can be found near the park office and the welcome center. There's another large parking lot by the Drummond Center. Fortunately, many of the parking areas can accommodate larger trucks, vehicles and trailers carrying golf carts or watercraft.

You'll experience the most this state park has to offer if you stop by in the summer. You and your family will be able to make the most of the lake by swimming, boating, participating in water sports and picnicking. This is also the time of year when the popular South Carolina Festival of Flowers is held.
While walking the park's nature trail, watch the underbrush for signs of raccoons, opossums, muskrats, long-tailed weasels, skunks and fox squirrels. Near the water, you may find beavers, otters, herons, egrets and spoonbills.
All of the 125 campsites are paved and can be used by both tents and RVs. Every site comes with water and electricity as well as a picnic table. Many of the spots can accommodate rigs up to 40 feet long.
Reservations are optional and can be made up to 13 months in advance. When reserving a campsite, you'll be required to book a two-night stay minimum and pay your full balance. Campers can reserve a spot online or by calling the park directly.
Pets are welcome in most outdoor spaces at this state park. They must be kept on a leash no longer than 6 feet or under physical control at all times. You may be asked to remove your pet if they're deemed noisy or dangerous or pose a risk to the local wildlife.
