Cheraw State Park, located in northeastern South Carolina, is best known for its 18-hole golf course and 360-acre Lake Juniper. Visitors can rent one of nine cabins in the park or camp either in an RV or in a tent under the stars, and wake up the next morning on a championship-level golf course designed by Tom Jackson. Lake Juniper is a great place for fishing, paddling, swimming, or taking a less than 10-horsepower boat out for a ride on the lake. The 7,361 acres of the park are home to the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker and act as a conservation area for other wildlife and plant life.

Cheraw State Park Campground
Cheraw State Park Campground offers 17 RV campsites, six of which lie alongside Lake Juniper. Each site is equipped with a picnic table, a fire ring with barbeque grills, and each campsite has pull-through capability. A dump station is provided for RV campers to clean their waste tanks. Warm showers and restrooms with flush toilets are available to enhance the comfort level for the guests. A camp store provides essential services. Lake Cheraw is accessed through a boat slip. Boats are available to rent at the camp store. An 18-hole championship-level golf course, gift shop, playground, and volleyball courts are available to park guests.

Bass Lake Campground
Forty miles southeast of Cheraw State Park lies Bass Lake Campground. Bass Lake offers 55 RV campsites, all of which have pull-through potential. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. Alongside the campground is a picturesque seven-acre lake stocked with fish. Boats with 10-horsepower motors are allowed on the lake. Boat rentals are available at the camp store. Hot showers and restrooms with flush toilets are provided for guest's use. A dump station allows visitors to clean their waste tanks.

The Farm Campground
Located 28 miles southwest of Cheraw State Park is The Farm Campground, a family-owned and -operated facility. The park offers 52 RV campsites with big-rig access, and each site includes a fire ring and picnic table. The campground provides three bathhouses with warm showers and restrooms with flush toilets and coin-operated laundry facilities. A playground offers plenty of action for the kids. Each campsite enjoys a cable TV feed.

Cheraw State Park
Cheraw State Park is well-known for its 18-hole, championship-level golf course. For golfers who also enjoy the outdoors, this park has it all. Activities on Lake Juniper are popular as well, especially fishing from either the shore, a boat, or the boardwalk that spans a good portion of the lake. Camping, wildlife viewing, and picnicking are other activities you can enjoy during a visit to Cheraw State Park.
Inside Cheraw State Park
Between the 18-hole championship golf course, 360-acre Lake Juniper, and an extensive hiking trail system, guests at Cheraw State Park have plenty of activities to engage in. Playing the golf course is a challenge for anyone as water-traps lie everywhere, and the greens are designed to be slick and tricky. Lake Juniper is stocked with multiple species of fish. Non-motorized boats are allowed on the lake and can be rented at the camp store. Four miles of hiking trails, some more difficult than others, let you enjoy the entirety of the park.
Fishing
Some of the fish you can expect to catch on Lake Juniper include largemouth and smallmouth bass, crappie, bream, catfish, and chain pickerel. The lake is huge, and there are plenty of places to fish no matter if you are in the center of a lake on a boat or just relaxing on the shore.
Geocaching
Geocaching is permitted in Cheraw State Park and there are many geocaches currently hidden throughout the park. Items can include those related to the campground and equipment.
Nature Watching
Cheraw State Park is a protected habitat for numerous species of wildlife and plant life. The red-cockaded woodpecker makes its home in the park and is one of the most popular draws for bird watchers and animal lovers. The scenic beauty of the lake, natural wooded areas, and championship golf course make it a great place for nature photography as well.

Hiking
The Cheraw Nature Trail and Turkey Oak Trail are both easy hikes in Cheraw State Park. The Cheraw Nature Trail is a two-mile loop within the larger 4.5-mile loop of Turkey Oak Trail. The Boardwalk Trail follows a half mile of Lake Juniper shoreline that takes you to Lake Juniper Dam. It is an actual boardwalk which makes for easy hiking.
Boating
Motorized boats are allowed on Lake Juniper as long as they are 10 horsepower or lower, meaning fishing boats are allowed on the lake but nothing more powerful. You can also paddle out and fish in canoes or kayaks as well.
Swimming
The swimming area at Lake Juniper is open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Memorial Day to Labor Day each year. Swimmers must stay within the designated swimming area, and there are no lifeguards on duty.
Biking
Cheraw Mountain Bike Trail is a nine-mile loop that allows mountain bikers to follow blue markers in a clockwise direction through predominantly sandy surfaces. It is an easier mountain biking trail with enough hills and turns for a good workout but no technical knowledge is needed.
How to Get to
Cheraw State Park
From Cheraw SC, take Highway 52 South for about four miles and turn right into the park's entrance.
From Charlotte NC, take Highway 74 East to Highway 601 East. From 601, take Highway 9 to Cheraw and then follow the directions above.
Entering Cheraw State Park
There is s parking lot at the visitor center and then other parking areas throughout the park. There is no entry fee for Cheraw State Park. Parking is offered for no additional fee for any type of vehicle.

The rare red-cockaded woodpecker can be seen in the park along with fox squirrels, deer, and multiple species of fish in the stocked Juniper Lake. Pets are allowed in most areas of the park, including the hiking trails, but visitors are asked to keep pets off the golf course and in lodging areas. Pets should be on a leash at all times and the leash should be no longer than six feet long.
