- Keystone State Park
Spanning a sprawling 1,200 acres of Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, Keystone State Park is the perfect place for Pittsburghers to get away from it all for a weekend (or a week, as suits your fancy). It’s open year-round and criss-crossed with trails perfect for hiking and biking in the summer and spring or snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in winter. What’s more, 78 of the park’s acres are aqueous: Keystone Lake, which offers cold- and warm-water fishing opportunities as well as beachfront, swimming, and boating.
Keystone State Park is located just an hour east of Pittsburgh, making it a great countryside spot to ditch the big-city hustle and bustle. Many of its facilities are ADA accessible, meaning every member of your camping party can participate in the fun -- and there’s a suite of conveniences and amenities ranging from flush toilets to on-site concessions.

Inside Keystone State Park
Whether you’re the landlubbing type or looking for some fun water-based adventures, you’ll find your fix at Keystone State Park. Here are just a few of the most common recreational activities that make the park so popular.
Hiking, biking, and running - Get your exercise and so much more when you take to the park’s well-marked network of trails, which includes several short loops (including the one that runs lakeside) that are absolutely perfect for enjoying cardio with a view.
Boating and fishing - Let’s face it: 78 acres is a lot of water. Might as well take advantage of it with some aquatic activities! Multiple boat launch locations are available in the park, as well as on-site boat rentals -- and if you’d rather stay ashore and enjoy the water from the sidelines, that’s cool too. In fact, one of the fishing areas by the spillway is ADA accessible!
Winter activities - Thanks to the vast lake, winter activities like ice fishing and ice skating are popular Keystone State Park diversions… but so are cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and sledding.
Hunting - During established seasons, about half of Keystone Lake State Park is open to hunting activities, though hunting woodchucks (aka groundhogs) is prohibited.
