Denton Hill State Park is located in the Pennsylvania Wilds region in northern central Pennsylvania. Because of how steep the hill is at Denton Park, ranging from 1,800 feet to 2,400 feet above sea level, it was a popular area for downhill skiing in the winter. A ski lodge was established in the 1950s–1960s, and the park closed its downhill skiing area in 2014 but announced plans to reopen it in 2023. Open throughout the year, Denton Hill State Park is also a beautiful area for hiking, nature watching and other outdoor activities. Susquehannock State Forest, where you can hike, bike or ski the Billy Lewis Area Trail System, is nearby for more recreational activities while you're in the area.

There are 8 miles of ski trails in Denton Hill State Park that connect with ski trails from the neighboring Susquehannock State Forest for an additional 29 miles of winter fun. Fishing
Nine Mile Run is a gorgeous cold-water stream in the park where you can fish for trout. It attracts anglers not just from Pennsylvania but also from other states.

You may spot a black bear during you stay at Denton Hill State Park. Other wildlife include white-tailed deer, turkeys, groundhogs, indigo buntings, dark-eyed juncos and blue-headed vireos.

Denton Hill State Park consists of a dense hardwood forest. If you visit during the fall, you'll enjoy the beauty of the forest's changing leaves.
Hiking
Denton Hill State Park has 8 miles of trails that connect to trails in Susquehannock State Forest where some of the most rugged mountainous hiking is in the Pennsylvania Wilds region. Doe Run Trail is an easy point-to-point hike that connects with the ski lodge and Sidewinder Trail that leads to a summit. Elm Hollow Trail, a moderate 3.2-mile out-and-back trail, takes you to a ridge for an overhead view of the area. Snowshoeing and skiing are allowed on the trail in the winter.
Biking
Have fun mountain biking in the hilly area on trails that are open for mountain biking at Denton Hill State Park when snow isn't on the ground. One of the mountain bike routes is 15 miles long and travels through part of Patterson State Park.
How to Get to
Denton Hill State Park
Denton Hill State Park is located at US-6, Ulysses, PA, 16948. From Ulysses, travel on PA-449 S for about 3.7 miles, then turn right onto US-6 W. After 4 miles, you'll reach Denton Hill State Park on the left-hand side. You'll pass by the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum before needing to turn left onto the road that takes you into the park. It can be easy to miss your turn if you're not paying close attention, so this landmark can help you avoid missing the turn. If you're coming from Coudersport or another city to the east of the state park, you'll take US-6 E. This is the only road that has access to Denton Hill State Park.
Entering Denton Hill State Park
Denton Hill State Park is open every day from sunrise to sunset with the day-use areas closing at dusk. ADA accommodations are available. Contact the park before your visit to make arrangements for the accommodations that you need. You don't need to pay an entrance fee to visit Denton Hill State Park. Parking lots are available near some of the trails. There's also a parking lot just 200 yards from US-6. Drive carefully in the area because there are cracks and potholes. Denton Hill State Park is a primitive location, so you'll want to come prepared with your own water and ready to pack out your trash. This may change after the park opens its downhill ski lodge again. The ski lodge buildings are still standing, but you're not allowed inside of them until the park officially reopens them.
