Robbers Cave State Park is located in southeast Oklahoma, in the scenic and hilly woodlands of the Sans Bois Mountains, 5 miles north of Wilburton. Once a former hideout for infamous outlaws Belle Starr and Jesse James, the park and adjoining wildlife management area is now a popular destination for nature lovers, hikers, hunters, anglers, equestrians, and more. Covering an area measuring over 8,000 acres, the region is also home to three lakes (Lake Carlton, Lake Wayne Wallace and Coon Creek Lake), multiple campgrounds, a swimming beach, nature center, and more. Several species of wildlife also call the region home, with wild turkeys, white-tailed deer, and other smaller, fur-bearing mammals most commonly sighted.
The area has a temperate climate, making it a popular destination year-round. Winter can see daytime temperatures averaging 50°F before falling to 27°F during the night. Summer, on the other hand, reaches a warm 93°F during the day, resulting in perfect swimming weather. Inside Robbers Cave State Park
While camping at Robbers Cave State Park is impressive, it’s the activities on offer within the park that has tourists flocking here all year round. With over 50 miles of hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian trails, a swimming pool, beach, mini golf course, boat rentals, and more within its boundaries, you can enjoy all sorts of fun and family-friendly activities.
Trails : With over 50 miles of trails located within Robbers Cave State Park, there’s an adventure for absolutely everyone. These trails are designed for hikers, horse riders, and mountain bikers. Some of the most popular of these include the Robbers Cave Nature Trail, Cattail Pond Trail, and Coon Creek Ridge Trail.
Swimming : During the warm weather, visitors are spoilt for choice when it comes to swimming. There’s an unpatrolled swimming beach located at Lake Carlton behind the Nature Center and Gift Shop, as well as a swimming pool located near Lake Carlton and next to the miniature golf course. The pool is in operation from Memorial Day to Labor Day and usage costs $5 per person.
Mini golf : You can also enjoy both disc golf and mini golf in the field below the swimming pool. Disc golf sets, golf clubs, and golf carts are available to rent from the Cabin Office and Gift Shop.
Boating : With its abundant water access, visitors can also partake in boating at the state park, including kayaking, paddle boating, and canoeing on Lake Carlton. Boat rentals are available.
Fishing : Fishing is a popular pastime on the park's three lakes - Lake Carlton, Lake Wayne Wallace and Coon Creek Lake. Anglers can expect to catch species such as largemouth bass, black and white crappie, perch, sunfish, bluegill, and catfish. From November 1st to March 15th, the Oklahoma Wildlife Department regularly stocks the river with trout, causing many anglers to flock here during this time.

From Oklahoma City, take US 40 east for 87 miles, then go south on Indian Nation Turnpike for 35 miles. Head east on US 270 for 35 miles. Robbers Cave State Park is 4 miles north of Wilburton on OK 2 in south-eastern Oklahoma.

Robbers Cave State Park has free entry; however, fees apply to some facilities (golf, swimming pool, boat rentals). Overnight camping fees vary from $14 - $25 per night.

Oklahoma has a humid subtropical climate and is known for experiencing frequent storms and tornados throughout the year. Winters are often moderately cold with very little precipitation. Severe thunderstorms are common during May and June.
Keep an eye out for white-tailed deer, gray and red foxes, coyotes, raccoons, and cottontail rabbits. You may even see a blue jay, bald eagle, cave salamander, garter snake, or northern green frog.

Pets are allowed at Robbers Cave State Park as long as they're on a leash. They're permitted on the trails and in the cabins. Always clean up after your pet and properly dispose of any waste.
The Whispering Pines campground at Robbers Cave State Park has fully accessible RV sites. The Nature Center and Community Building have accessible entrances and parking. A few of the cabins and shelters are also accessible.
