Medoc Mountain State Park RV & Campground Guide
North Carolina
Millions of years ago, Medoc Mountain State Park sat in the midst of Paleozoic mountain peaks; today, the mountain is a lone granite swell covered by sun-dappled forests. Take a breath and soak in the silence as you explore serene hiking trails and paddle the ever-calm Fishing Creek as it flows through the trees. In the spring and summer, the park grounds surround you with vibrant shades of green; in the fall, hike through tunnels of brilliant orange and red changing leaves. Given the sense of peace and isolation, you might be surprised to learn that bustling Raleigh is just 60 miles away and Rocky Mount lies 33 miles south. Come for a week or enjoy a lovely stopover on your way north to Lake Gaston. The park offers plenty of activities to fill visits of any length.

Inside Medoc Mountain State Park
Start your trip to Medoc Mountain State Park in the forest. With its seven trails that cover 10 miles, you can try a different one every day. The park also offers 10 miles of equestrian trails, and if you're bringing a mountain bike, you can explore 9 miles of multi-use trails. Most routes are gentle, but a few, including the Pyrite Loop Trail, take advantage of the mountain's rapid elevation gain to offer an extra challenge. If you prefer to be near the water, head down to Little Fishing Creek to fish for sunfish, bass, and bluegill. Paddling is a great way to explore as long as you're prepared to portage your canoe or kayak in shallow areas.
