Newtown Battlefield State Park covers 2,000 acres close to Elmira, New York, and it marks the location of the famed Battle of Newtown. At this 1779 battle, the Iroquois people and British forces were defeated by American Revolutionary forces after the tribe backed British forces in the war. In 1965, the area was named a National Historic Landmark. Baldwin Creek lines Newton Battlefield State Park to the northeast, and the Chemung River to the southwest, and the beautiful landscape includes wooded areas, a steep riverbank, and grassy areas.
