Hejamada Campground & RV Park

One of the best spots for campers near Fillmore Glen State Park is Hejamada Campground & RV Park, located at 748 Mcdonald Rd, Port Byron, NY 13140. What to Do at
Fillmore Glen State Park

The hiking trails at the park have spectacular views of woods, waterfalls, and rock formations. The swimming pool is popular to cool off in the summer and was created by damming one of the streams, and there are lifeguards on duty. While camping or during a day trip, you can grill up some eats at the picnic area overlooking the water. During the winter, the park is well-known for its snowmobiling on four of its five hiking trails.

Fillmore Glen State Park is full of beautiful outdoor attractions, like the many hiking trails and five waterfalls. Visitors love to appreciate the natural beauty of the waterfalls, which you can actually get under if you don't mind getting wet. For a more relaxing affair, visit the picnicking grounds and enjoy an afternoon under the trees. There is also a replica of the log cabin that Millard Fillmore, the U.S. president that the park is named after, grew up in as a boy. Additional recreational options include snowmobiling, fishing, cross-country skiing, and hunting. 

Hiking Hiking

There are five hiking trails in Fillmore Glen State Park, one easy and four moderate. The most popular is the Gorge Trail, which is the one that passes by the five waterfalls. The trails are all particularly scenic during autumn, when the trees are the most colorful. While you hike, be sure to have your birding notebook available to mark down the various species you will see, which include thrushes, juncos, and various wrens.

Flora and Fauna

The forests of the Finger Lakes region are home to many animal species, including bobcats, raccoons, weasels, wild turkeys, deer, and sometimes bears. You may spot snapping turtles, newts, and salamanders near the water. The hepatica is the most striking among the many wildflowers that grow in Fillmore Glen State Park. Fishing in Fillmore Glen State Park is available at the Owasco Lake Inlet, and you can catch both brown and rainbow trout along with bass, brown bullhead, panfish, and mudsuckers.

Boating

You can take boats out on Owasco Lake, which is nearby. There are a few businesses on the shore of the lake where you can rent boats.

The park's swimming pool is fed by Dry Creek. Even at the height of summer, the water is between 60 and 65 degrees Fahrenheit, which means it will be a refreshing dip on hot days.

How to Get to
Fillmore Glen State Park

From Syracuse, take Route 5 west to Auburn. From Auburn, drive south on Route 34. Follow Route 34 until the junction with Route 90. Then, turn east on Route 90 to Locke. Next, turn north on Route 38, and follow it all the way to Park Road, which is across the street from the Speedway gas station. Park Road takes you right into Fillmore Glen State Park.

From Cortland and all points south, drive north on Route 11, which is also known as Homer Avenue. Follow that to the junction with Route 90. Then, turn west on Route 90. Take Route 90 to Locke, and then turn north on Route 38, which will take you to the junction with Park Road. Turn east on Park Road, which goes right into Fillmore Glen State Park.

Entering Fillmore Glen State Park

Parking is available near the park office and close to the swimming pool. There is a $7 parking fee if you are visiting for the day. The parking fee is included in the cost of your campsite if you are staying overnight.
