Winslow State Park RV & Campground Guide

New Hampshire

Winslow State Park was founded in 1935 in south-central New Hampshire between the towns of Lebanon and Concord. It sits on grounds once home to the Winslow Hotel, an 18th-century hotel that is no longer standing. A focal point of the park is a picnic area located on the slopes of Mount Kearsarge. With an elevation of 1,820 feet, this picnic area offers beautiful views of the surrounding White Mountains, including Ragged Mountain and Mt. Sunapee. Mount Kearsarge is in the Kearsarge Mountain State Forest and is a popular hiking destination for locals and visitors alike.

Two hiking trails lead to the summit, and a multi-park loop that covers 75 miles is accessible via Winslow State Park as well.

Nature Watching Nature Watching

Mount Kearsarge is home to many bird and mammal species, including black bears, wild turkey, moose, deer and others. Because of the high volume of foot traffic on the trails during peak seasons, the best times to spot wildlife are early in the morning, late in the evening and during the non-peak season.

Hiking Hiking

There are several trails in the park that lead up to or around Mount Kearsarge, including the 1.1-mile Winslow Trail and the 1.7-mile Barlow Trail. In addition, the 75-mile Sunapee-Ragged-Kearsarge Greenway passes through the park, and it is connected to Wadleigh, Rollins and Sunapee state parks. The Barlow Trail’s ascent to the summit is more gradual if you're looking for an easier climb.

Stargazing Stargazing

From the summit of Mount Kearsarge, you can enjoy spectacular views of the night sky. There is no parking lot adjacent to the summit, so you must hike up to and down from the summit to enjoy the views. Visitors should proceed with caution and bring proper illumination when walking on the trails at night.

Climbing Climbing

Mount Kearsarge is comprised of granite rock, and there are many outcroppings and ledges throughout the park. Generally, these surfaces are short in height and are most suitable for free climbing.
