Roosevelt State Park, between the cities of Meridian and Jackson, Mississippi, offers many outdoor recreational activities and beautiful scenery. Stop at the scenic overlook that boasts a panoramic view of the Bienville National Forest, which is particularly breathtaking in fall. 

The weather in the park can get down into the 30’s during the winter lows, and up into the 90’s during the summer highs. Because it’s Mississippi, humidity is definitely a factor during the warmer months!

Roosevelt State Park

Inside Roosevelt State Park

There are lots of things to do at Roosevelt State Park. From water fun to other outdoor activities, here are some of the things you can do inside the park: 

Fishing: There is a fishing pier available at the day use picnic area. Year-round fishing is allowed, and the lake is stocked with bass, crappie, bream, and catfish. 

Boating: A boat launch and trailer parking area is at the southeast end of the lake. There is a nominal fee for the boat launch, and you can purchase a daily or an annual permit. Pleasure boating, waterskiing, tubing, and jet skiing is allowed on the lake during the summer. 

Nature trails: There are nature trails that wind throughout the park. The six trails total about 4.8 miles, and connect different areas of the park. They also allow a closer look at the woods, and unobstructed views of trees, flowers, and wildlife. From the 0.3 mile Rolling Hill Trail to the 1.2 mile Beaver Dam Trail, you can pick one (or all!) and get a closer look at the flora and fauna in the area. 

Disc Golf: The Moccasin Bend Disc Golf course is 18 holes across open terrain and through wooded areas. There are a variety of shots. The course is open to the public and is free with park admission. 

Swimming: The pool overlooks Shadow Lake, and ranges in depth from 3 feet to 5 ½ feet. There is a zero-depth splash pad with water jets. There is also a water slide with a landing pool next to the swimming pool. There is a separate fee for the pool and water slide, aside from the park entrance fee.

Roosevelt State Park

From I-20 East toward Meridian: Get off on Exit 77, turn left on Hwy 13 North. After about ½ mile, turn left into the park. 

From I-20 West toward Jackson: Get off on Exit 77, turn right on Hwy 13 North. After about ½ mile, turn left into the park.
