Located in southern Mississippi, Paul B Johnson State Park is just 20 minutes south of Hattiesburg and west of Purvis. Camp Shelby is also a nearby city, giving RV vacationers another place to explore. The park is a beautiful scenic lakeside retreat oasis with a natural wonderland marked by majestic long-leaf and loblolly pines, ancient oaks, and delicate dogwoods that fits perfectly into an RV vacation. The deep De Soto National forest surrounding the park provides a picturesque setting for various outdoor activities. Many wildlife species roam the forest area like white-tailed deer, bobcats, coyotes, and foxes. Inside Paul B Johnson State Park
Inside, the state park is relatively small, with most of the day-facilities being along the western shore of Geiger Lake, a short distance from the campground. Many vacationers utilize the 225-acre lake for fishing, boating, and other water sport activities. There is a sand beach and swimming area right behind the visitor center where you can relax and soak up the sun's rays. Those who are outdoor enthusiasts will love walking on the Trail of Southern Pines that will take them through Mississippi plant, bird, and animal life. Other activities here are a playground, picnic area, splash pad, and game room.
How to Get to
Paul B Johnson State Park
If you're traveling from Hattiesburg, you'll want to begin by heading southwest on East Pine Street toward Main Street. Turn left onto West Pine Street, drive for about a mile, and turn left onto US Highway 49 South. Continue for 11.4 miles, and then turn right onto Tower Road. Go just under two miles, make a left onto Geiger Lake Road, and then follow signs to the state park.
