The state park was developed along the shore of Hillsdale Lake in the eastern region of Kansas in 1982 and opened to the public in 1994. Hillsdale, specifically, is one of the newest reservoirs in the state and is part of a flood control plan designed for the area. Hillsdale State Park

Kansas City, Kansas, and St. Louis, Missouri, are the two cities that people travel to Hillsdale State Park from most often. Coming from Kansas City, get onto I-35 S from Truman Road. Follow I-35 S and KS-7 S/US-169 S to West 255th Street in Marysville, and then, take the 255th Street exit from KS-7 S/US-169 S. You will arrive after continuing on West 255th Street to your destination in Richland. 

From St. Louis, get onto I-64 W/US-40 W. After continuing on I-64 W, take I-70 W to KS-7 S/US-169 S/South Harrison Street/South Woodland Street in Olathe. Take exit 215 from I-35 S. You will arrive after driving along KS-7 S/US-169 S to your destination in Richland.
