Waubonsie State Park encompasses Iowa's unique Loess Hills and the plains of Nebraska. It is located along the Lewis and Clark Historic Trail and serves to showcase their route of exploration and the landscapes they encountered. There are miles of trails in the park, and visitors will see prairie grasses atop hilltops and woods in the adjacent valleys. The park contains 2,000 acres of these diverse habitats, and you can spend hours exploring. The park is in the southwestern corner of Iowa and is next to Nebraska. The cities of Omaha, NE, and Nebraska City, NE, are close by as are the towns of Lincoln, NE, and Sydney, IA.

Inside Waubonsie State Park
Waubonsie State Park has several trails that travel through the center of the park. The Sunset Ride Nature Trail has panoramic views of the Missouri River, and the Ridge and Valley trails take hikers through thickly wooded areas. There is an 8-mile trail system for hiking only and a separate 8-mile system for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and snowmobiling. You can fish and paddle on Lake Virginia and also enjoy boating with electric-powered boats only.

From Omaha, take Interstate 480 E from Douglas St. Follow Interstate 29 to IA-2 in Benton. Take exit 10 off Interstate 29 S. Continue on IA-2 until you reach the park entrance.
From Lincoln, take N 13th St. to E St. Take NE-2 to Waubonsie Park Rd in Washington and continue to the park entrance.
From Des Moines, take Interstate 235 W. Continue to IA-2 E in Benton and take exit 10 from Interstate 29 S. Follow IA-2 E to the park entrance.
