Florence Marina State Park is located in southwestern Georgia, along the Alabama border. The main attraction is the 45,000-acre Walter F. George Lake, which offers water activities for all ages. There isn't much land surrounding the lake, but what is available provides you with a beautiful setting to enjoy while walking or picnicking. The annual Easter egg hunt and Christmas on the Lake draw in large crowds. While camping here, be sure to tour the Kirbo Interpretive Center to learn about local history and see Native American artifacts from the area. Providence Canyon State Park is only eight miles away, which is known as Georgia’s Little Grand Canyon.

Florence Marina State Park Campground
Staying at this campground puts you within walking distance of all the park's amenities. Friends and family who don't have campers can stay in one of the cottages that are available for rent, but the campground has both RV and tent sites, too. More than 40 sites are spread across 173 acres that are close to a shelter that you can rent for special events. The campground is conveniently located near the marina, which has 66 boat slips available.

Martha's Orchard RV Park
Martha's Orchard RV Park makes guests feel right at home with daily activities that include parties in the community center and free meals. City Limits RV Resort
With just 20 sites, this campground is one of the most peaceful near Florence Marina State Park. Owned and operated by a local family that is on-site 24/7, it has a small store where you can pick up ice and other essentials as well as a community pavilion that hosts marshmallow roasts and other activities. Both pull-through and back-in sites accommodate the biggest of RVs.

Florence Marina State Park
With tennis courts and playgrounds near the campsites, there’s plenty to do while staying in Florence Marina State Park. Watersports of all kinds are enjoyed on the river and the lake, which includes a marina and boat slip rentals. While on land, take time to walk or bike along the lake to explore the wildlife and natural surroundings.
Walter F. George Lake provides fishing, boating, and water skiing for day visitors and campers. On land, guests can enjoy geocaching and bird watching.
Inside Florence Marina State Park
Those who love water sports come to Florence Marina State Park because of its 45,000-plus acre lake. This lake connects to a marina that offers boat slip rentals as well as a fishing pier that is handicap accessible. Bald eagles and herons are just some of the wild animals that you might see when hiking through the park. The Kirbo Interpretive Center makes it easy to learn about those animals as well as the Native American history in the region. Don't forget to rent a bike when you arrive to get around the park.
Fishing
The Chattahoochee River runs along the Walter F. George Lake. Both of these bodies of water provide guests with excellent fishing opportunities. You can cast your line along the shoreline or from the accessible fishing pier. You can also go out on the lake in your boat. Common catches include spotted and largemouth bass, channel catfish, crappie, stripers, blue catfish, and sunfish.
Geocaching

You’ll also find the Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge at the northern end of the lake.

The 45,000-acre lake provides visitors with a large open area for stargazing. The remote location adds to the darkness of the night sky, making it easy to see the constellations while camping here.
Hiking
While there’s not a lot of land in Florence Marina State Park, there are areas where you can enjoy a walk through the beautiful landscape. You can stroll along the shore or explore the remnants of the area’s original town. The one-mile dirt trail near the campground is ideal for viewing park wildlife.
Boating
Boats are allowed on the water, but you’ll need a permit first. When boating on the lake, you’ll appreciate the convenience of the 66-slip boat dock at the marina and the park’s boat ramp.
Swimming
The 640 miles of shoreline includes several designated swimming areas where you can cool off on hot summer days.
Biking
You’re welcome to bicycle around Florence Marina State Park. If you don't have your own bike, there are ones available to rent during your stay.
How to Get to
Florence Marina State Park
From Albany, take Highway 520 to Richmond. Get off on Georgia 27. Follow it through Lumpkin to Georgia 39 C. Go roughly 16 miles on this road, until you reach the stop sign. The park will be on your right.
Entering Florence Marina State Park
Entrance fees into the park are $5 per vehicle. You’ll find three parking lots. One is by the campground, the second is by the marina, and the third is next to the miniature golf course. Parking is $5 per vehicle.
