Eleven Mile State Park is a 7,662-acre retreat that surrounds the Eleven Mile Reservoir southwest of Lake George, Colorado. It is a paradise for campers and fishermen, who can enjoy the park’s visitor center, market, and marina, plus five miles of hiking and biking trails. Although many of the campsites are rustic, the park provides showers, flush toilets, and a laundry room at the camper services building, which is open during the summer season. Campers can also stock up on supplies and firewood at the marina. Popular activities include nature watching, evening crawfish boils and sailboarding in summer, and ice fishing and cross-country skiing in winter.

Pikes Peak RV Park
Pikes Peak RV Park is a small and intimate family-owned RV park. It is located in the city of Manitou Springs near Pikes Peak. The park has a stream running through it, and many of the sites are right next to the running water. The other side of the park has sites that are adjacent to a walking trail with great views of Pikes Peak. While staying here, you have a good chance to see many varieties of wildlife make an appearance.

Falcon Meadow RV Campground
Falcon Meadow RV Campground is a small, family-owned campground that is homey but has plenty of amenities. Inside Eleven Mile State Park
There is no end to the fun you can have at Eleven Mile State Park. You can hunt and fish as permitted per season, and there are many outdoor opportunities like bird-watching, boating, ice skating, snowshoeing, hiking, biking, and numerous other sporting and recreational activities. You can rent some of the equipment for these outings at the park. Ice fishing is popular in the winter, and duck hunting attracts many hunters in the fall.
Fishing
If you love to fish, you’ll find everything from kokanee salmon, northern pike, and carp to rainbow, brown, cutthroat, and cutbow trout in the reservoir. You can bow fish in shallow waters year-round or try your luck on the South Platte River by the inlet. The park also hosts Eagle Claw Shappell Colorado Classic Pro-Am ice fishing tournaments during the winter season. You can get a fishing license and a complete list of regulations and possession limits at the park office.
Geocaching
There are several geocaches hidden in Eleven Mile State Park, including one near Howbert Point Campground. If you have a hand-held GPS device or a smartphone, you can go on a scavenger hunt, find the treasure, and leave something in its place for the next searcher to find.
Nature Watching
If you love spotting wildlife in its natural habitat, you’ll find plenty at Eleven Mile State Park, which is home to everything from pronghorn antelope, elk, and deer to bears, porcupines, and rabbits. The park is a haven for birds, and you may spot pelicans on the reservoir, falcons in the air, and chickadees in the trees.
Stargazing
Eleven Mile State Park has wide-open, dark, clear skies that are perfect for stargazing. You can gaze up at the Milky Way, map out the constellations, and track the path of Orion. The Colorado Springs Astronomical Society sometimes hosts star parties in the summertime.
Flora and Fauna
Eleven Mile State Park features prairie grasslands, tree-lined slopes and canyons, and wetland habitats by the reservoir. Wildflowers and shrubs like Indian paintbrush, scrub oak, copper mallow, golden aster, gilia, and wild rose grow in the uplands. The ridges are sparsely forested with limber and ponderosa pine, with an understory of mountain mahogany and Spanish bayonet. Douglas firs, Colorado blue spruce, and aspen grow in the canyons. Near the reservoir, you can find the rarely seen few-flowered ragwort and pale blue-eyed grass.
These zones host all manner of wildlife, including cottontail rabbits, white-tailed jackrabbits, muskrats, badgers, and ground squirrels. You may also see mule deer, coyotes, porcupines, and elk. Birders will enjoy spotting migrating and resident species, including horned larks, mountain bluebirds, and black-billed magpies. You may even be fortunate enough to spot a bald eagle or an American peregrine falcon. Besides the trout and salmon the reservoir is famous for, the park’s waters are also home to yellow perch, crawfish, sand shiners, and small-mouth bass.
Hiking
Hikers can enjoy several trails that run through Eleven Mile State Park and take guided nature hikes with park rangers in the summer. The Coyote Ridge Interpretive Trail is a short, easy, self-guided nature trail loop that winds its way along a ridge. You can also pass time on the Midland Trail and the Black Bear Trail. If you like a challenge, grab your compass and head for the orienteering trail. This 3.16-mile trail has several waypoints that you must successfully navigate to complete the course.
Hunting
During legal seasons, you may hunt ducks, geese, and other animals as permitted in specific portions of the park. Hunting maps are available online or at the park office.
Biking
Mountain bikers share most of the Eleven Mile State Park trail network with hikers. You can take your bike on the three-mile Midland Loop Trail or increase your degree of difficulty on the Aspen Trail and Ponderosa Trail. These trails lead you into the backcountry along the northern edge of the Midland route.
Boating
The Eleven Mile Reservoir is a popular spot for captaining your kayak, canoe, or sailboat. You can also rent small boats at the marina. During the summer, the water is great for sailboarding. Be advised that body-water-contact activities like wading (without waders) and swimming are not allowed because of the presence of algae.
How to Get to
Eleven Mile State Park
There are many ways for travelers to access Eleven Mile State Park. If you are driving from Cañon City on US 50, drive 10 miles west, turn north on Co. Hwy. 9, and drive 22 miles to County Road 59. Drive north 20 miles to the park entrance. From Colorado Springs, drive west 38 miles on U.S. 24. One mile west of Lake George, go south on County Road 90 for six miles. Continue south on County Road 92 for five miles to the park.
From Salida, drive nine miles northwest on CO Hwy 291 and then drive north for 28 miles on US Hwy 285. Go east on US 24 and drive 25 miles to County Road 23 and then drive about two miles south to County Road 59. Drive a half mile east to the intersection of County Roads 59 and 92 and then continue east on County Road 92 for 4.5 miles to reach the park entrance.
Entering Eleven Mile State Park
The daily vehicle pass fee is $10. All vehicles must display a Colorado State Parks Pass on the windshield. You can purchase your pass at the entrance station.
