The Silver Strand is a narrow, 7-mile-long sandy isthmus near the cities of Coronado and San Diego, California, on Highway 75. Along with the Point Loma peninsula, the Silver Strand forms the San Diego Bay. The state park sits on this sandy isthmus on the outer edge of San Diego Bay. With a half-mile of beach on the bay and more than 2 miles of ocean beach, the park is a haven for anyone who loves the ocean.

Silver Strand State Beach
Silver Strand is a very popular beach near San Diego, offering everything you'd expect from a world-class beach; there is plenty of sunshine, fresh air, crashing waves and gorgeous views of the endless ocean.
Inside Silver Strand State Beach
Hiking: You can stroll along miles of sandy beach, enjoying the fresh ocean air and sunshine. However, there are no dogs allowed on the beach.
Biking: There are biking trails around the park, allowing you to enjoy the spectacular views.
Surfing and windsurfing: What represents the Southern California lifestyle more than surfing? You can surf to your heart's content along the Silver Strand.
Fishing: Surf fishing is allowed, but make sure you have a California fishing license. Among the fish you can catch are barred surfperch, black sea bass, grunion, corbina, and yellow-fin croaker.
Scuba diving and snorkeling: Dive and snorkel through the kelp forests of the San Diego Bay. There is a multitude of sea creatures to see, including fish, harbor seals, sea lions, and California's state fish, the brilliant orange Garibaldi.
How to Get to
Silver Strand State Beach
The Silver Strand State Beach is located on Highway 75, just 4.5 miles south of the city of Coronado, California.
If you're coming from the north, take Interstate 5 south and take the Coronado Bridge across the bay to Coronado Island. Then, go left on Orange Avenue/Highway 75 south.
If you're coming from the south, take Interstate 5 north, and then take the Palm Avenue West exit to Highway 75 north.
By Car
Entering Silver Strand State Beach
The park gates open at 7:00 a.m. The gates are locked at 9:00 p.m. during the summer. That is the Friday before Memorial Day through Labor Day. Park gates close at 8:00 p.m. starting on the Tuesday after Labor Day through October 31.
If you have reservations for the campground, check-in time is 2:00 p.m.
