Forested hills rise from the Pacific Ocean at Point Mugu State Park, a spectacular spot located 15 miles south of Oxnard and 52 miles north of downtown LA. Standing on the spectacular coastline, however, you’d never guess that California’s biggest metropolitan area is just a stone’s throw away. The park boundaries contain a remarkably diverse group of natural terrain—in just one day, you can walk on a sandy beach beneath rocky cliffs, hike through the shade of a river canyon, and wander across valleys in the Santa Monica Mountains. With more than 70 miles of hiking trails, silence and peace are within easy reach. Plus, since the weather is moderate and comfortable year-round, it’s always a good time to visit.
