Located in the rugged Santa Cruz Mountains just a quarter-mile south of Felton, CA, Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park offers a fascinating geological view into the watershed of the San Lorenzo River. The park is composed of a famous 40-acre grove of towering old-growth redwood trees, grasslands, sandhills, and river areas. Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park features four distinctive ecosystems that support a variety of wildlife, such as white-tailed kites, white-crowned sparrows, blue herons, coyotes, bobcats, and black-tail deer. Since Santa Cruz is just 3 miles to the south, the park offers a unique glimpse of nature that's not far from civilization.

The state park's campground, which is nestled in a mixed evergreen forest near the Santa Cruz Sandhills habitat, offers 107 campsites that can hold 35-foot long RVs. All campers are provided with a food locker, picnic table, fire pit, and grill. Unfortunately, there is no water fill or dump station. Sites fill up quickly at the Graham Hill Campground, so you'll want to reserve online months ahead of time.

Santa Cruz Ranch RV Resort is only 5.1 miles from Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park. The resort is nestled around the beautiful redwoods, which gives plenty of shade on a hot summer day. Then, take a walk beyond the redwood grove and observe the four diverse habitats. This state park also features several hiking trails, roads with bike paths, and multiple picnic areas. There is even a swimming hole called the Garden of Eden located in the Cowell Redwoods.
How to Get to
Henry Cowell Redwoods
If you're coming from the east, you can reach Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park by following Mount Herman Road until you reach Graham Hill Road. Make a left and continue about 2.5 miles; you will see the entrance to your right. If you are not going to the campground, you can use one of the other two vehicle entrances. If you're coming from south of downtown Felton, take Highway 9 in the Santa Cruz Mountains. If you're coming from Highway 17, take the Mount Hermon Road exit and follow signs to Highway 9 through downtown Felton; the entrance will be on the left.

Dogs are allowed at Henry Cowell Redwoods, but they are restricted to the campsites and paved roads. Leashes can be no more than 6 feet long. Dogs must be kept inside the RV or in their own shelters at night.
