Hike around the area and see all the park has to offer, stopping to name the birds flying overhead or watching an angler reel in a prized catch.

Inside Colusa-Sacramento River State Recreation Area
The Colusa-Sacramento River State Recreation Area is a beautiful place with a picturesque landscape of pine trees, riverbank cottonwoods, willow trees, shrubs, and other plant life along the riverbed. This area attracts tourists from all over who enjoy outside activities and nature. The Sacramento River offers a huge opportunity to catch a variety of fish, including striped bass, king salmon, rainbow trout, and steelhead. When you're ready for lunch, you can take advantage of the 5-acre lawn area that's filled with picnic tables and barbecue stoves. There are also trails that run along the sandy riverbank and travel to spots like the Coast Range, Sutter Buttes, and old Colusa buildings.
Fishing
Fish from your boat or from the bank of the river and snag an amazing haul of king salmon, steelhead trout, rainbow trout, or striped bass. Certain fish spawn and fill the river during different months, so be sure to check the fishing forecast to see what bait you'll need based on what species you are trying to catch. Bank fishing is the easiest from the river's northwest bank, just outside the park. If you take the trail to the park's gravel bar-beach area, you'll find another great spot for fishing from the shore. However, fishing by boat is the best, allowing you to find the deep holes where fish gather.
Geocaching
Geocaching in the park area is a great way to venture out and explore more than meets the eye on a typical visit. Be sure to wear proper footwear and attire and bring your smartphone or GPS device to find hidden caches around the park.
Nature Watching
The Sacramento River is on a major migratory route for birds of the Pacific flyway and provides a home for dozens of species. Canopies of cottonwoods and willows provide nesting opportunities for many other bird species to call home.
Stargazing
Get away from the forest canopy and find an opening for a glimpse at the starry sky above. Stargazing may be difficult at times due to the city lights nearby.
Flora and Fauna
Riverbank cottonwoods and willows provide a shady environment around the park. Wild grapes and figs are among the bushes and shrubs in the area. Deer, raccoons, opossums, foxes, skunks, and muskrats make their homes in the recreation area. Birds such as ring-necked pheasants, California quail, mallard ducks, Canada geese, western meadowlarks, northern flickers, and ospreys roam the river and surrounding land.
Hiking
There is a short path through the shady wooded area that takes you to and around the river banks.
Boating
A boat launch is located in the park for small boats to get out on the river. There is a $5 fee for using the boat launch.
Swimming
A gravel bar beach area provides a shaded swimming area in the Sacramento River. There are restrooms and picnic tables nearby.
How to Get to
Colusa-Sacramento River State Recreation Area
Colusa-Sacramento River State Recreation Area is located just off of the downtown area of Colusa on the Sacramento River. The park is just two blocks north of Market Street or Highway 45 at the intersection of 10th Street and Levee Street.
By Car
Entering Colusa-Sacramento River State Recreation Area
A large parking lot sits on the west side of the park. A fee of $6 per day is charged for parking in the lot.
Colusa-Sacramento River State Recreation Area does not charge an entry fee for visitors. Visitors entering the park by foot or on bicycle are free to enter without payment. Vehicles entering the park will be charged a parking fee. An annual pass is available for all California state parks.
