Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area

The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area encompasses more than 70,000 acres along 40 miles of the Delaware River. This area, partially in both Delaware and Pennsylvania, offers more than 100 miles of hiking trails. The river makes an ideal spot to go canoeing, kayaking, rafting, and tubing. The streams, lakes, and rivers are great spots to go fishing. The area is also considered historically significant because much of the French and Indian War took place there.

Point State Park

Point State Park is located within Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where the Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio rivers meet. Tuscarora State Park

Considered one of the prettiest Pennsylvania state parks, Tuscarora State Park is located near Barnesville, Pennsylvania, and is sure to be a fun stop. Go swimming, boating, and fishing in the lake at the bottom of Locust Mountain, or partake in the environmental education programs offered by park rangers. Take in the natural beauty and learn about native plants as you walk along the hiking trails through old-growth hemlock and rhododendron stands. About 1,100 acres at this park are open for seasonal hunting.

Gifford Pinchot State Park

This detour will add less than an hour of driving time to your trip, and give you the chance to stretch your legs across the 345-acre park. Feeling adventurous? Hike the Mason-Dixon Trail, which is part of the 200-mile-long National Recreation Trail, or enjoy their shorter paths for a quick stop. If you're traveling in the winter months, you can even go iceboating or try your hand at ice fishing in Pinchot Lake.

Shawnee State Park

Right off your route is Bedford, Pennsylvania, home of 451-acre Shawnee State Park. Go for a boat ride on Shawnee Lake with their ADA-compliant facility, or even swim in it! When you're tired of the water, you can hike their Field Trail or take it easy on one of their nature paths. A prime spot for birders, you can even plan your trip to see specific species during their summer or fall migrations. This park also supports several dedicated hunting areas.

Originally founded in 1906 as an amusement park for the people who worked for the Hershey Chocolate Company, the park was eventually opened for the enjoyment of the general public. Hersheypark contains rollercoasters, a zoo, and many options for delicious dining. The park is great for all ages and includes children's rides, bumper cars, and larger, thrilling rollercoasters. The park even uses a unique, Hershey chocolate-themed name system for their height range requirements for each ride. Plainsboro Preserve

Stop at the Plainsboro Preserve, located in the county of Middlesex, Pennsylvania. The preserve is part of New Jersey Audubon, an environmental education and conservation advocacy organization.
