Great Smoky Mountains National Park

On this trip, you'll find only a single national park along the way, but that park is one of the grandest in the system. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park has over 500,000 acres of land to explore, and if you're a fan of wildlife, you'll love to see the elk, bison, and bears that call this national park home. Hikers will also love the miles of trails, and some even connect to both the Appalachian and Rainbow Falls trails. This park is slightly off of the path to your final destination on your road trip itinerary from Tallahassee to Memphis, but the opportunity to witness nature in your RV is well worth the trip.

Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park

This Florida state park was founded in 1923 when its founder Alfred B. Maclay and his wife planted the first garden in the area. While you're strolling through this picturesque state park, take the time to appreciate the camellias and azaleas that are frequently growing here. In addition to the flowering plants, there's also a beautiful and mirror-like reflecting pool that you can visit. There are also fishing opportunities on the local lake if you bring your gear.

Seminole State Park

Seminole State Park is positioned about 15 miles southward of Donalsonville, Georgia, and is primarily comprised of sprawling wetlands. In fact, in total, there are about 37,500 acres of land to explore in this state park. Positioned on the shores of Lake Seminole, you'll experience a wide array of wildlife species here, such as osprey, bald eagles, and gopher tortoises. At this wetland state park, you can even find alligators and other unique wildlife. 

General Coffee State Park

General Coffee State Park is positioned along the Seventeen Mile River and is named for a U.S. congressman who served under General Andrew Jackson during the Creek Wars. His namesake park has some beautiful vistas with a variety of wildlife. In fact, General Coffee State Park is home to over 100 bird species, which is why thousands of birdwatchers flock to the park every year. 

Chattahoochee Bend State Park

Chattahoochee State Park is positioned on 2,910 acres of river land. This wetland-rich area also has several acres of drier forestland to explore, making it a great place to roam on foot. You'll find Chattahoochee Bend in Newman, Georgia, and in addition to the abundant hiking opportunities, you'll find several places to rent boats, bikes, and off-road vehicles.

Challenger Learning Center and IMAX Theatre and Planetarium

Before you leave Tallahassee on the first leg of your Tallahassee to Memphis RV road trip, consider a stop at the Challenger Learning Center. This is a family-friendly place to visit that teaches visitors about space and aeronautics. Named after the tragic Challenger Mission, the center is dedicated to science education and has a built-in IMAX theater that shows visitors various STEM-related films. Ochlockonee River Wildlife Management Area 

Ochlockonee is a scenic preserve that offers visitors plenty of hiking, wildlife observation, and picnicking opportunities. The park is part of the ecological restoration of the longleaf pine forests that were much more abundant in the state at one time. Throughout the area, there is forestland to hike in as well as wetlands to explore. There's also a boat ramp for those with toy haulers or hitches that provides quick and easy access to the river. Ochlockonee is a great place to fish.

St. Marks Lighthouse

Located in Crawfordville, FL, St. Mark's Lighthouse is one of the most photographed locations in the entire state. Currently, the lighthouse is considered a wildlife refuge thanks to the surrounding coastal marshes, islands, estuaries, tidal creeks, and rivers. There, you'll see animals like red-cockaded woodpeckers, herons, and many species of waterfowl. The lighthouse itself is a treasure built in 1842 and is still used to help local anglers, and boaters navigate the shore.

Carters Lake

Found in both the Gilmer and Murray counties in Georgia, Carters Lake is the deepest lake located in the state. On average, the depth is 200 feet, but it can go as deep as 450 feet in some areas. Carters Lake is in the Blue Ridge Mountains, so it's actually at a surface elevation of 1,073 feet. When fishing here during your Tallahassee to Memphis road trip, expect to pull up both spotted and largemouth bass, bream, and walleye.

Main Cities You Will Pass Through

Macon, Georgia

Macon, GA, which is often referred to as the Macon-Warner Robins metro area, is in the central part of the state. The architecture here is a major draw for tourists, and there is also a thriving art scene. For example, in Macon, you'll find The Tubman Museum, which focuses on African American art and history. Macon is also home to the Allman Brothers Band and is home to the museum that showcases memorabilia from the band.

Nashville is also a mecca for country music. It is home to the Grand Ole Opry House, and it is also where you'll find the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. The Johnny Cash Museum and Cafe is a must-stop for any country fan, and the iconic Capitol Records is also in Nashville. Because Nashville is Tennessee's capital, you really won't lack things to do. 

Nashville has RV parks and campgrounds within the city limits as well as in the surrounding metropolitan area.
