White Sands National Park

White Sands National Park contains a portion of the largest white gypsum field in the world. Homolovi State Park presents a glimpse into the lives of the ancient Hopi people as they lived in this area from the 1200s to the 1300s. The park serves a dual purpose of research into the Hopi culture and providing an educational and recreational opportunity for visitors. In partnership with the Hopi, archaeologists work to discover the history of past indigenous peoples, and everyone can enjoy camping under the stars, hiking the trails, observing the views from scenic pullouts, and touring the visitor center and museum. 

Palo Duro Canyon State Park

Palo Duro Canyon State Park is located just south of Amarillo and is home to Palo Duro Canyon, the second-largest canyon in the United States. The canyon is 20 miles wide at its widest, 120 miles long, and 800 feet deep at points. Inside the park, there are 30 miles of hiking trails, many of which lead past unique "hoodoos," which are stacked rocks featuring a large rock perched on top of a smaller rock. The park is dominated by the red sandstone hues of these and other types of rock formations. The Canyon Gallery at the visitor center, built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, is a great place to stop and view the surrounding canyon. Bluewater Lake State Park

The Desert Botanical Garden possesses a large collection of several thousand native and non-native desert plants. These species include cacti, trees, flowers, and shrubs. Within the grounds, you can hike along multiple trails, such as the Plants and People of the Sonoran Desert and Harriet K. Maxwell Desert Wildflower Loop trails. The garden has events throughout the year, and some of the exhibits are on a rotating schedule. In the evening, the gardens are illuminated, presenting a unique display of flowers and lights.

Crystal Bridge Conservatory, Myriad Botanical Gardens

The Crystal Bridge Conservatory is unique in its design. Both humid and dry tropical plants are preserved in the gardens in two separate zones. They are displayed in a conservatory that is 224 feet long and 70 feet wide and encased by 3,028 sections of translucent acrylic panels. These zones are the Tropical Dry Zone and the Tropical Wet Zone. The entire center is 15 acres, and in the summer, the kids can cool off underneath the Thunder Mountain Fountain; in the winter, they can skate on an ice rink. The Children's Garden is open all year and has interactive play areas.

The National WWI Museum and Memorial

The National WWI Museum and Memorial is dedicated to preserving and interpreting the causes and effects of the first World War. It is designated as the official World War I Museum and Memorial and is located in Kansas City, MO.
