On this road trip from Mobile to Savannah, you could head west and then north, but the more scenic route will take you through Atlanta and Congaree National Park. Start by going north on I-65; then, continue north on I-85. Once you reach Atlanta, follow I-20 East to Congaree National Park. Nearby National Parks

Congaree National Park

Congaree National Park is located in South Carolina, and it is home to some of the tallest trees that you can find on the East Coast. The terrain is mostly forest, but the Congaree River does create a swampy floodplain in some areas. There are 10 designated hiking trails that you can explore in the park that range in length from less than a half-mile to nearly 12 miles. There are also guided walks where a ranger will go with you and explain the plants and the wildlife that you see there. 

You can also take a kayak or a canoe down the Congaree River, but you will need to have your own watercraft to explore this part of the park.
