Its lowest elevation is at the foot of Lake Michigan, and the highest will vary based on the time of year and the size of the dunes. Indiana Dunes State Park is actually inside of the national park, so you can explore that as well. This park has more than 50 miles of trails, so if you like to hike, make a stop here. 

Cuyahoga Valley National Park

Cuyahoga Valley National Park is the only national park in Ohio, and it covers about 32,572 acres of land. In the park, there is something for everyone to enjoy. About 22 miles of the Cuyahoga River winds through the park, and there are 125 miles of hiking trails that you can explore. Brandywine Falls, which is the largest waterfall in the park, is a popular attraction that most visitors want to see. Kayaks and canoes can be rented at Little Falls Lake, and Willow River is stocked with trout, so you are likely to catch some fish if you try. During the winter, sledding and ice fishing are also popular pastimes at the park.

Pokagon State Park

Pokagon State Park is one of the Indiana state parks that you will come across during your trip. The park provides a breathtaking view of Lake James, and there are plenty of activities to enjoy during your visit. There are bike paths and trails to explore. You can visit the nature center or enjoy some fishing along the banks of the lake. In the winter, skiing is a common activity here, and there is also a toboggan run that is available on weekends from Thanksgiving until the end of February.

Harrison Lake State Park

Harrison Lake State Park is an Ohio state park that is very scenic. It used to be a wetland area because the land was once under Lake Erie. Today, however, the area is mostly forested with a lot of the wetland features that you would expect to see. There is a beach that you can relax on, and you have the option to take a boat out and enjoy some fishing. There are also 3.5 miles of trails circling the lake that you can hike as well.

Shawnee State Park

Shawnee State Park is about 1,095 acres of land, which is mostly carved valleys and wooded hills. There is plenty of wildlife in the park; you will likely see deer, turkeys, raccoons, bobcats, and even black bears. The forests are filled with orchids and other types of wildflowers. There are 75 miles of trails that can be hiked, biked, or enjoyed on horseback. Two beaches can be used for swimming, and the lakes also have boat ramps where you can go out into the water and cast a line. In addition, the park has an 18-hole golf course.

Wolf Sanctuary of PA

If you like seeing animals up close, you will want to visit the wolf sanctuary while you are in Pennsylvania. These wolves live in 80 acres of natural woods, which are similar to their natural habitat. Tours are offered as well as full moon events where the wolves will be howling for all to hear. They even offer photography sessions with the wolves.

Valley Forge National Historic Park

Valley Forge National Historic Park was a park created to preserve the history that happened during the winter of 1777 and 1778. During this time, George Washington led the continental army into the valley, and this is where they stayed. You can see the Muhlenberg Brigade Huts that served as temporary barracks and Washington’s Headquarters where Washington and the highest-ranked officers lived and worked. You can see rows of cannons in the artillery park, and there are trolley tours that you can take part in to see all of the most important points of interest in the park.

Chicago is called "The Windy City," and there is plenty to explore while visiting the area. There are theaters like the Chicago Theatre and the Lyric Opera of Chicago. You can also take the time to explore the Museum of Contemporary Art and Shedd Aquarium. Make sure to take a relaxing stroll through Millennium Park as well.
