While visiting the park, you can follow the multi-use trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Many visitors take the opportunity to rappel up the rocky outcroppings.

Channel Islands National Park

Channel Islands National Park lies just off the coast near Los Angeles and contains five of the eight California Channel Islands: Santa Cruz, Anacapa, Santa Rosa, Santa Barbara, and San Miguel. The park is home to two distinct ecological biomes in a smaller biopic of the North American coast. Here, you have the opportunity to come across more than 2,000 animal and plant species, many of which can be found nowhere else. Isolation has led to the development of many unique species on these islands. One of the best ways to explore the watery portions of the park is by kayak, and once you are on the islands, there are multiple hiking trails to explore.

Mount San Jacinto State Park

The Mount San Jacinto State Park is in the San Jacinto Mountains and is only a few hours from Los Angeles and San Diego. The park is home to Mount San Jacinto, which is 10,834 feet in elevation and the second-highest mountain peak in Southern California. Visitors to the park often hike to the top of the peak, accessing the trailhead either by riding the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway or by hiking up one of the multiple available trails. Many of these trails require permits to hike, including the Deer Springs Trail, which includes a portion of the well-known Pacific Crest Trail. On a clear day, you can see from Catalina Island to Southern Utah. While in the park, you can enjoy trekking through the varied terrains of mountain meadows, subalpine forests, and granite peaks. Much of the park is a designated wilderness area.

Chino Hills State Park

Chino Hills State Park is located in the Chino Hills, which are part of the Santa Ana Mountains. With its proximity to Los Angeles, visitors to this 14,102-acre park will appreciate the experience of leaving the city and spending time in a seemingly remote, natural world. The park is part of the Chino–Puente Hills wildlife corridor, and it is an important habitat for both native and migrating wildlife. Chino Hills State Park offers plenty of outdoor recreational activities like hiking, biking, and riding horses on the more than 60 miles of trails. 

Red Rock Canyon State Park

Located at the convergence of the El Paso Range and the southern end of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Red Rock Canyon State Park is known for the unique shapes and colors of the numerous canyons, cliffs, and buttes. The spring displays of wildflowers are stunning after a wet winter, and at any time of year, you can see hawks, roadrunners, mice, lizards, squirrels, and other wildlife here. Many people have left their mark in this region, and today you can see important paleontology sites, the remains of circa 1890s mines, and groups of petroglyphs.

Griffith Observatory

Griffith Observatory is an important center of astronomy that provides a great service to the general public. It was built in 1935 with the provision that admission would always be free to everyone. The observatory is located on the south end of Mount Hollywood in Griffith Park, just above the neighborhood of Los Feliz. The Griffith Observatory contains a coelostat system of three tracking mirrors that feed three solar telescopes, but the 12-inch Zeiss refracting telescope is the main star of the show. Besides the telescopes, the observatory has a number of permanent exhibits and displays, like the Edge of Space, which presents a viewpoint of Earth from space, and the Keck Central Rotunda, which explores the connections between astronomy and mythology. 

Palm Springs Aerial Tramway

The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway departs from Valley Station at an elevation of 2,643 feet and arrives at Mountain Station at an elevation of 8,516 feet. The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway provides access to Mount San Jacinto and is an exciting ride up the side of the mountains. The cars revolve during the ride, and when you get to the end, you will find a restaurant, snack bar, gift shop, and visitor center. A little farther out, you can visit the Long Valley Ranger Station, which is near a restroom and picnic area, a ski center, a nature trail, and the Desert View Trail. The Desert View Trail offers views of the peaks that make up the surrounding high country. The hiking trail system is accessible from this area. 

Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood

The Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood is a three-hour tour of the famed film lot. During the tour, you will see the ins and outs of a real working Hollywood studio. Aside from the current ongoing projects, the studio features displays of sets and sound stages used in past productions of movies and shows. These include exhibits for "La La Land," "Friends," "Casablanca," "The Big Bang Theory," and many other well-known properties. You will also be treated with a visit to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Wonder Woman at DC Universe: The Exhibit, the Picture Car Vault with Batman's vehicles, and the interactive Stage 48: Script to Screen. The Warner Brothers Museum, which houses costumes, scripts, and props, is part of the tour as well.

Burbank is located at the southeastern end of the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles County, CA, and it is only about 12 miles from downtown Los Angeles. Castaic Lake RV Park is on Castaic Lake, and it offers a cool respite from your road trip. There are several dump stations in the surrounding area. 

Bakersfield, California

Bakersfield is located on the Kern River. There are several interesting sites and activities to explore, such as the Buena Vista Museum of Natural History, the California Living Museum, and the Kern River Ranger District, which is part of the Sequoia National Forest. The Rosedale Village RV Park is a large RV park in the Bakersfield suburb of Rosedale, and it has plenty of shade provided by tall palm trees. Rosedale Village RV Park is situated directly off Highway 58, and it may be a good idea to take advantage of one of the many dump stations nearby.
