Yellowstone National Park  

Yellowstone National Park is only 40 minutes north of Moran, Wyoming. Old Faithful, Grand Prismatic Spring, Fairy Falls, Lonestar Geyser, and more await you at this iconic national park. Theodore Roosevelt National Park  

You'll have to drive three and a half hours north of Spearfish, South Dakota, to reach Theodore Roosevelt National Park, but the extra driving is worthwhile. There are enough opportunities for adventure here to satisfy even the old Rough Rider himself, so you should definitely visit this national park named for America's 26th president. This park is an interesting mix of open prairie, badlands, and a river, so there are plenty of great places for hiking, wildlife watching, and fishing. 

Wind Cave National Park  

The entrance to Wind Cave National Park is roughly an hour south of Sturgis, South Dakota. The main attraction here is, of course, Wind Cave, which is one of the world's longest cave systems. Once you've finished exploring this amazing underground environment, you'll still have more than 28,000 acres of natural mixed-grass prairie on the surface to check out. More than 30 miles of park trails take you through prairies and forests where elk, bison, mountain lions, and more roam free.

Badlands National Park  

Since the entrance to Badlands National Park is only 10 minutes south of Wall, South Dakota, how could you pass up the opportunity to add it to your road trip itinerary from Boise to Sioux Falls? The eroded buttes and pinnacles at this awesome national park form a rugged, iconic landscape that's just begging for exploration. Since visitors can hike anywhere in the park they want, this park is an outstanding locale for backcountry camping. If you'd rather not stray from the beaten path, fear not: multiple marked trails take you through some stunning badlands landscapes.

Bruneau Dunes State Park  

Twenty minutes west of Hammett, Idaho might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think about sand dunes, but Bruneau Dunes State Park is, indeed, located only a little over an hour into your road trip from Boise to Sioux Falls. North America's largest single-structure sand dune resides here; multiple trails give you the means to explore these dunes on foot or horseback. Fishing, stargazing, and sand-sledding are some other popular activities here.

Boysen State Park  

Boysen State Park is 15 minutes north of Shoshoni, Wyoming. This is Wyoming's biggest state park, so you won't have to worry about running out of room for adventures. Boysen Reservoir is an outstanding place to go fishing, boating, water skiing, and more. You might even see deer, bighorn sheep, antelopes, and other animals that call this park home.

Glendo State Park  

Before you head north of Casper, Wyoming, on Interstate 25, you should head east on Interstate 25 instead for a visit to Glendo State Park. Between Glendo Reservoir and the North Platte River, you'll have plenty of opportunities for fishing, swimming, boating, and water sports. There are more than 45 miles of trails here, so you'll have numerous places to go hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and more. 

Bear Butte State Park  

The entrance to Bear Butte State Park is a little more than five minutes from the outskirts of Sturgis, South Dakota, so it's a great addition to your road trip itinerary from Boise to Sioux City. The main attraction here is Bear Butte, which is an enormous body of igneous rock that has been sacred to multiple cultures for generations. Bear Butte Lake is a wonderful place for fishing, boating, and swimming; you can also fish from a dock on the shore. Several trails take you through the park and even to the summit of Bear Butte itself.

Custer State Park  

Custer State Park is an hour south of Sturgis and practically right outside of Wind Cave National Park, so it's a logical stop to make on your Boise to Sioux Falls RV road trip. At 71,000 acres, this is South Dakota's largest state park. Bison, prairie dogs, coyotes, wild turkeys, and more all live in this state park. Plenty of trails, streams, and lakes provide awesome venues for hiking, fishing, swimming, and other activities.

Along the Way

Hagerman Fossil Beds  

The Hagerman Fossil Beds are 10 minutes west of Tuttle, Idaho. If you visit the Visitor Center, you'll be able to watch an introductory video about the area, grab some maps of the park, and look at some excavated fossils. Then, you can take a stroll around some of the parklands on paths that give you views of the Oregon Trail, the Snake River, and the cliffs in the park. 

Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve  

You likely won't be able to take a casual trip to the moon any time soon, but you can do the next best thing by exploring Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve. The lunar-like landscape at this park, an hour from Carey, Idaho, was formed ages ago by erupting volcanoes. Whether you want to stroll along Loop Road or hike into the Craters of the Moon Wilderness, you'll easily find adventure at this park.

East Idaho Aquarium  

About 10 minutes from the heart of Idaho Falls, Idaho, you'll find the East Idaho Aquarium. You'll be able to have close encounters with marine life here, thanks to the Starfish Touch Exhibit and the Stingray Touch Exhibit. Other fabulous exhibits include the Shark Exhibit, the Freshwater Life Exhibits, and the River Giants Exhibit.

Rushmore Tramway Adventures  

The Rapid City area has multiple attractions centered around Mount Rushmore, but Rushmore Tramway Adventures is one of the best, thanks to its variety of offerings. You can see Mount Rushmore and its gorgeous surroundings courtesy of the Scenic Chairlift. Other attractions at this park include Tubing Hill, Aerial Adventure Park, and the Zipline Tour.

The World’s Only Corn Palace  

Whether or not you initially planned to add viewing corn murals to your road trip itinerary from Boise to Sioux Falls, you'll definitely want to do so in order to visit The World's Only Corn Palace. This unique attraction is located in the heart of Mitchell, South Dakota, which is fortunately only six minutes from your route. Half a million guests each year visit this attraction in order to see the corn murals, attend events and experience the Corn Palace Festival.

Main Cities You Will Pass Through

Twin Falls, Idaho  

Unsurprisingly, many of Twin Falls’ attractions center around water, so be sure to visit Twin Falls, Shoshone Falls, and Snake River Canyon. Many nice dump stations and campgrounds are nearby.

Idaho Falls, Idaho

The Snake River Greenbelt, Idaho Falls River Walk, and Idaho Falls Zoo are three great attractions in Idaho Falls. You’ll easily be able to find quality dump stations and campgrounds close by.

Jackson, Wyoming  

When visiting Jackson, be sure to tour the historic Town Square area and the National Elk Refuge. This area is close to two gorgeous national parks, so there are many great dump stations and campgrounds available.

Sturgis, South Dakota  

The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is a big draw here; you can also visit the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame. There are, of course, plenty of dump stations and campgrounds in the area due to the annual rally.

Rapid City, South Dakota  

Bear Country USA, Reptile Gardens, and Downtown Rapid City are a few of the places you can go to experience Rapid City. You’ll have plenty of great dump stations and campgrounds from which to choose.
