Do not miss the opportunity to play on Yellowstone Lake as it is the highest freshwater lake in the U.S. The 0.5-mile-wide Grand Canyon of Yellowstone that stretches for 20 miles is a fantastic place to go for a hike. See the bison, elk, bears, and other animals in Hayden Valley by going on a hike or from the comfort of your car.

Grand Teton National Park  

Located only about 11 miles from Yellowstone National Park, you will want to add Grand Teton National Park near Moose, Wyoming, to your Boise to Newport road trip itinerary. Choose to take one of the many scenic drives through this park to enjoy its scenery. Then choose one of the climbing trails, ranging from easy to challenging, so everyone is sure to find one meeting their abilities. Black Tail Butte offers easy options near its base, but the farther up you go, the trickier the routes become. Follow the hiking trail to see Inspiration Point Waterfall and play on Jenny Lake. The lake is a great place to go on a canoeing or kayaking adventure. Before you leave, visit some of the historical sites, like the Chapel of Transgression built by early Mormon settlers.

Rocky Mountain National Park  

When you get to Cheyenne, head south for about two hours to visit Rocky Mountain National Park near Estes Park, Colorado. Start your visit with a scenic drive along Trail Ridge Road. Then follow some of the 350 miles of hiking trails to see mule deer, elk, and bighorn sheep. This park is home to over 30 waterfalls with most of them located along the Continental Divide. Over 150 lakes and lots of mountain streams make this an outstanding location to go fishing.

Indiana Dunes National Park  

Indiana Dunes National Park near Chesterton, Indiana, is the perfect place to spend a day playing on Lake Michigan’s beachfront. Bring along your cameras as this is a great place to capture images of Chicago’s skyline while on your Boise to Newport RV road trip. Stroll across the dunes to see the unique ecosystem at this national park. Be sure that your stroll includes the Beverly Shore area, where the homes were constructed for the 1933 World’s Fair.

Cuyahoga Valley National Park  

There are over 125 miles of hiking trails in Cuyahoga Valley National Park near the village of Peninsula in Ohio. A favorite trail is Virginia Kendall Ledges, which leads you through a forest, past caves, and along colossal limestone boulders. You will also want to follow the shorter trail leading to the 65-foot-tall Brandywine Waterfall. The part of the Ohio and Erie Towpath Trail running through this park is an excellent place for a bike ride. Consider combining your bike ride with a ride on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad, which allows you to bike one way and ride the train the other.

Eugene T. Mahoney State Park  

Be sure to include a stop at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park near Ashland, Nebraska, on your road trip from Boise to Newport. Activities at this state park change depending on the season. It is a great place to go ice skating in the winter, and you will not want to miss the swimming pools during summer. Climb the observation tower to see the Platte River Valley from a different perspective, and see if you are brave enough to complete the high-ropes course. There are golf, miniature golf, and Frisbee golf courses. Stock up on supplies at the marina before setting off on a paddleboarding or boating adventure. Rock Creek State Park  

As you are zipping down Interstate 80 on your Boise to Newport road trip, be sure to stop at Rock Creek State Park near Kellogg, Iowa. Rent a boat to play on the lake. This is a fantastic place to go fishing for crappie, bluegill, largemouth bass, walleye, and channel catfish. A fishing pier is available on the south end of the lake.

Geneva State Park  

Located near Geneva, OH, you will want to explore Geneva State Park. This park is a great place to spend a lazy day at a Lake Erie beach. The lake is a fabulous place to go walleye fishing. This park features six miles of mixed-use trails, where you can go hiking and biking. Take a break from the water, and hone your skills at the archery range.

Liberty Park  

Salt Lake City’s Liberty Park is a fantastic place to stop and explore. This park, the second largest in the city and its oldest, has many outdoor recreational facilities, including basketball and tennis courts, making it a great addition to your Boise to Newport road trip itinerary. There is also a large swimming pool and volleyball courts. Stroll along this park’s paths to see the old grist mill and remains of the farm.

Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium  

Consistently ranked as one of the top zoos in the world, you will want to visit the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium during your road trip from Boise to Newport. This zoo features the largest cat complex in North America, the world's largest nocturnal exhibit and an indoor swamp.
