Things To Do Near Lake Roosevelt National Recreational Area
Lake Roosevelt National Area is a treasure in the Pacific Northwest with plenty to see and do. Northrup Canyon Trail
The Northrup Canyon Trail is a longer trail that also features a lake. This is a wonderful area for hiking, mountain biking, and even horseback riding. The trail itself is in good condition and gets steeper for the last mile or so. Keep an eye out for the abundant wildlife, as you may spot bald eagles, ducks, or prairie dogs.

Steamboat Rock Trail
The Steamboat Rock Trail is home to a beautiful array of wildflowers. While you are enjoying your nature hike, keep your eyes peeled. It is common to see deer hanging out under a few trees that offer shade. The first section of this route is in the sand. A portion of the trail on the return section has a lot of loose gravel, so it may not be recommended for children.

Grand Coulee Dam
The Grand Coulee Dam goes across the Columbia River to form Roosevelt Lake, the lake that was named after the president, who had a great deal to do with this dam's planning. It provides hydroelectric power and irrigation for the area. Take a fascinating guided tour of the dam and learn all about its history and how it works. In the summer, laser light shows are projected onto the wall of the dam.

The Gehrke Windmill Garden is a fun little spot. This fenced-in area features a variety of windmills made from recycled materials like bicycle rims and pieces of metal. Colville Tribal Museum
In the Colville Tribal Museum entryway, you are greeted by a stuffed buffalo and a mural depicting the Nez Perce Trail. From there, you can explore displays of Native American beadwork, basketry, tools, and clothing from the area. This museum houses history collected by the Colville Confederated Tribes representing about 11 different tribes. There is also a gift shop on the ground floor filled with items related to Native crafts and culture.

Fort Spokane Visitor Center & Museum
Fort Spokane was once an area for the local native tribes to meet on their way to fish the rapids. In the 1800s, the US Army established a fort there. After the fort was closed, the buildings were used as an Indian boarding school and a tuberculosis hospital. Today, you can tour the grounds and museum exhibits to learn more about the history.
