Backbone Trail
The Backbone Trail in York River State Park provides easy access to many other hiking trails in the park, so hikers can customize their path. This trail starts near the visitor center and runs through marshes, a beach, and a forest before reaching the park's northwest parking lot. The trail runs by Fossil Beach, which is a great place to go fossil hunting.

The Cross Country Trail starts at the Potomac River in Great Falls Park and runs to Occoquan Regional Park. Rosewell Plantation Ruins
See the exposed brick frame and the stacked smokestacks at this site where the original home was constructed in 1723 by Mann Page I. After belonging to two more generations of the Page family and some other families, a fire destroyed the house in 1916. Historians believe that Thomas Jefferson, who was a classmate of Mann Page II, wrote a precursor to the Declaration of Independence called A Summary View of the Rights of British America at this site.

Yorktown Victory Monument
The 87-foot-tall Yorktown Victory Monument commemorates British General Cornwallis's surrender to the Franco-American alliance at Yorktown on October 19, 1781. View the names of French and American soldiers who died during the battle, one of the most decisive at the end of the American Revolutionary War. While the United States Congress declared that a monument was to be built at the site, they failed to fund the project for over 100 years. See many symbols on the granite statue that took over three years to complete.
