Skyline Drive

The 105-mile Skyline Drive follows the Blue Ridge Mountain crest through Shenandoah Valley National Park. There are four strategically placed entrances and exits to this road. Nearly 70 overlooks can be found on this hilly road with a 35 mile per hour speed limit. There are numerous places to stop and explore and things to do along this route. You may need to use a campervan because Marys Rock Tunnel is only 12-feet 8-inches tall.

Things To Do Near Skyline Drive

While there are four different entrances to Skyline Drive, if you want to start your drive from the north, enter Shenandoah National Park at the Rockfish Gap Entrance Station. You can go on a bike ride on the drive, stop at the stables at mile marker 42.5 to go on a guided trail ride, or bring your horses to ride on over 100 miles of trails. There are fantastic fishing opportunities near Skyline Drive, like Jeremy's Run near the Elkwallow Picnic Area, Piney Branch near the Ranger's Cabin, and the Thornton River between mile marker 25 and 26. While you can see a lot of the beautiful scenery from the overlooks, there are also fantastic hiking trails that you will want to follow.

How To Get To Skyline Drive

Accessing Skyline Drive at the Rockfish Gap Entrance Station is a smart move because it gives you easy access to the entire length of Skyline Drive. Get there from Richmond in about 90 minutes by getting on Interstate 64 West. Exit onto US 290 East. Make a sharp left and a quick right to get on Skyline Drive. The entrance will be on your left.
