Green Spring Plantation

Green Spring Plantation is one of the most modest parts of Colonial National Historical Park — grassy fields dotted with daffodils offer little clue of the rich history of the landscape. In the mid-1600s, the grounds were home to the grand mansion of Governor William Berkeley. As Berkeley sought to guide the settlers and farmers in the brand-new colony of Virginia, he used the Green Spring grounds to experiment with different crops. Although the original buildings succumbed to the ages, the site is a reminder of the remarkable history of the Jamestown area and its importance in the founding of the United States.
