If you have time before your return ferry after your visit to Fort Sumter, head down the Fort Sumter Beach Trail. Located outside the fort walls, it leads to a small beach on the side of the island. The path is short and easy, but it offers another view of the fort wall.

Fort Moultrie Trails
Although there are no designated hiking routes at Fort Moultrie, a network of walking paths offers access to the grounds. For the best views of the fort and the water, take the well-maintained route that travels around the outer edge. Three smaller dirt trails lead down to the water, where you can look out over to Fort Sumter. Head east along the beach, and it's possible to walk all the way down to the public beach. Another trail leads over to Battery Jasper, which sits a short distance from the main fort grounds.
