Statue of Liberty National Monument

The Statue of Liberty National Monument is one of the United States' most recognizable icons — this enormous statue rises more than 305 feet above the ground, welcoming travelers to New York Harbor. Given as a gift to the United States from France to celebrate democracy after the Civil War, the copper-plated Lady Liberty was completed on October 23rd, 1886. Hop on a ferry from Manhattan or New Jersey to reach Liberty Island, and spend an afternoon exploring the museums, climbing high into the statue's crown, and enjoying the spectacular waterfront views from the park's walking paths. The park is open all year; you'll find the smallest crowds in the morning and on non-summer weekdays.
