Lincoln Home National Historic Site

The Lincoln Home National Historic Site preserves the only house that President Abraham Lincoln ever owned. It is located in downtown Springfield, Illinois, and has been restored to the way it was in 1860. President Lincoln and his wife, Mary, lived here for 17 years before Lincoln became president. It started out as a one-story house, and the Lincolns added a second story to accommodate their growing family. Three of their sons were born in the house. Today, the site includes two other historic houses and a visitor center, encompassing four and a half blocks.
