La Mauricie National Park is located in the region of Quebec, Canada, about a 2 hour drive from both Montreal and Quebec City. Full of rivers, lakes, and pond, this forested and mountainous national park is not to be missed. Covering 207 square miles, the park is located in the Laurentian mountains and is a short drive from several New England states such as Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, and upstate New York. Open year round, La Mauricie National Park has plenty of trails to be hiked, biked, cross-country skied, and snowshoed. It also offers a canoe camping circuit for those looking to head to the backcountry. This circuit covers a dozen lakes and gives visitors access to 200 campsites that are only accessible by boat. Even if you’re not ready to take a multi-day canoe camping trip, don’t miss a few hours on the water with a canoe or kayak. Due to the abundance of lakes and rivers, this national park is a fantastic place to birdwatch and is home to wildlife such as moose and black bears as well as otters and beavers.

Things to do Outside La Mauricie National Park
La Mauricie National Park is an outdoor lover’s paradise. Spend your time camping, canoeing, kayaking, biking, and hiking through the park. There are several locations to rent canoes, single and double kayaks, and stand up paddleboards. You can reserve the boats ahead of time or rent one when you arrive. Once you’re on the water, head to Wapizagonke Lake or one of the hiking trails that can be accessed from the waterways. With over 150 lakes in the park, there’s no shortage of boating opportunities. And with no motor boats allowed on the lake, it will peaceful while you explore. Drive the Parkway and stop to see the scenic views. The Parkway is a great way to traverse the park and get fantastic photo opportunities. There are several scenic viewpoints along the drive where you can stop and take in the impressive landscape. These include Vide-Bouteille Lookout, Le Passage Lookout, and Ile-aux-Pins Lookout. You can also search for the 7 red chairs placed throughout the park on the trails which designate fantastic scenic lookouts. Visit Quebec City. 93 miles northeast of La Mauricie National Park is Quebec City, Canada and it's a great city to tag onto your trip. Take a walking tour of Old Quebec, the UNESCO World Heritage Site and the only fortified city north of Mexico. You can also walk along the fortifications, snap a photo of the Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac (the most photographed hotel in the world!) or shop in the Petit-Champlain district. And If you head 117 miles southwest, you’ll find the city of Montreal. Visit Old Montreal, wander through the Montreal Botanical Garden, or stroll through the Parc du Mont-Royal. It’s a great place to stop if you’re heading back into the U.S. after your visit to the national park.

How to get to La Mauricie National Park
La Mauricie National Park is located between Montreal and Quebec City. There are several ways to get to La Mauricie National Park depending on what U.S. state you’re coming from. From the border crossing at Champlain, New York, take Autoroute 15N to Montreal. From there take Autoroute 40 E and Autoroute 55 N/QC-155 N until you get to Chem. du Parc National. Follow Chem. du Parc National and Chem. de Saint-Jean-des-Piles until you get to the park.
