Grasslands National Park

Grasslands National Park is located in southern Saskatchewan near the U.S. Border and showcases the region’s prairie grasslands. This national park protects one of Canada’s remaining undisturbed shortgrass/dry mixed grass prairie lands. While it might not have the towering mountains or breathtaking glaciers like other parks in Canada, this wide sweeping prairie the only national park dedicated so the prairie grasslands and is home to an impressive variety of wildlife including bison, coyotes, foxes, owls, hawks, and the country’s only colonies of black-tailed prairie dogs. It also happens to be the darkest Dark Sky Preserve in Canada, making for some incredible stargazing. Grasslands National Park is made up of two areas, the West Block and the East Block. The West Block is more developed, has more hiking trails, and is closer to services. It showcases rolling hills and prairie landscapes. The East Block is more remote with badlands scenery and has fewer hiking trails, which is great if you’re looking for a quiet visit without crowds of people.
